God's Grace is Easy to Find, Mine... Not So Much Sometimes!

God's grace is a gift. The word for grace in Greek is charis, which can also be translated as benefit, credit, favor. The word also means grateful, joy, thankfulness.

It is easy to think the last three words (grateful, joy, thankfulness) reflect our response to experiencing the first three (benefit, credit, favor), and although that may be true, it is amazing to consider that when God extends grace, He does it with gratitude, joy, and thankfulness.

I tend to think He may be extending that grace begrudgingly. Why is that? Probably because that's how I tend to extend grace in some situations...

I met someone new today and approached a topic that came off as more abrupt and negative than I had intended. The person's response was defensive, and then I became defensive too.
As I prayed about the situation later, I realized where I had gone wrong and needed grace. And because of my faux pas, the other person for sure deserves my grace as well.

But I don't think our Heavenly Father experiences us like that. We are not strangers meeting for the first time. He made us, knows us already, and isn't surprised at our words and actions.

Just as I am thankful and full of joy when my children come to me, I can only imagine that when we come to Him for forgiveness - asking for His grace - He is thrilled to be in relationship with us.
