From the Desk of Principal Cherry

It is hard to believe we are already into February and taking about registration for next year. For our current 9th grades, Borah counselors have met with the students to discuss class options for next year. For our current 7th and 8th graders, counselors will be meeting with students all throughout the month to make class choices for next year. By the end of February, all students should have selected their elective classes. We will then begin making the final schedule for next year. It is important that students choose their electives wisely because changes cannot always be accommodated once the schedule is finalized. Please contact your child's counselor if you have any questions about class options.

Drop off and Pick up

When dropping off your child, please remember that your child needs to be ready to exit the vehicle as soon as possible. While we would all love to be dropped off right at the front door, it is backing up traffic onto the street. The students can walk the short distance from the parking lot to the door. This will help keep traffic moving. When you pick up your child, DOUBLE and TRIPLE parking on Salt Creek (the road in front of the school) is NOT allowed. Traffic needs to be able to flow in both directions. We have had several complaints the past couple of weeks regarding traffic being blocked. Thank you for helping with this situation.

Message From West PTBC (Parent Teacher Booster Club)

The PTBC will be selling Valentine Grams on Feb. 8th, 9th, and 10th at both lunches. The cost is $1.00 (cash only). Kids can buy a Valentine Gram (a note with a sucker) for their friends, classmates, staff members, etc. and they will be delivered during their 9th hour classes on those days. Parents may also purchase Valentine Grams and have them delivered. Look for that email from PTBC. Also, if you would like to donate suckers for the Valentine grams, you may drop those off in the main office. Once again, thank you for supporting West PTBC.

Message from Student Council

Hotcakes for Hunger

The Student Council is organizing a food drive "Hotcakes for Hunger" that will take place from Jan. 30-Feb. 17. Students can bring non-perishable items to 9thhour classes. The winning classes will get pancakes made for them by Student Council Members on National Pancake Day, Feb. 21st. All of the donated food will go to West Families in need, the Borah Food Pantry and the Idaho Foodbank.

ORDER YOUR YEARBOOKS HERE

It's that time of year when we start ordering yearbooks. While yearbooks aren't delivered until May, we need to know how many to order before then. In order to be guaranteed a yearbook, please place your order soon. Last year we sold out of yearbooks so be sure to order before the deadline. The deadline is early spring. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Drzayich at kellie.drzayich@boiseschools.org

Advisory Period and Homework Help

At West Junior High we offer an advisory class at the end of the day (9th period 2:00-2:30). This class is part of the academic school day and tardies and attendance are taken. It is designed for students to get help with assignments, retake quizzes or tests, or have time to complete homework. It is also where students set academic goals and evaluate how they are reaching those goals each semester. Students get weekly printouts of missing assignments as well. This time is designed to help students be successful and get any help or support they need. If you child would like additional support, please see program below that Borah offers.
