A Message From The Special Teachers:

Hello, Smith Parents!

The Specials Team is requesting sidewalk chalk donations for a new event at Smith called Big Art Day!

The trading card projects in Art have been such a success that we would like to designate Friday, March 6th for a combined Specials team day where we draw and decorate all of the sidewalks, play games, listen to music, and trade cards between the students during their grade level's specials time!

If you would like to donate sidewalk chalk for this event, please send the chalk with your student and have them give it to Ms. Pitts.

We are grateful for your generosity and support!

Home Learning Ideas for Kindergarten Families

Keeping skills fresh over the break can be fun and simple! Try these quick games at home:

  • Sight Word Hunt: Hide sight words around the house and have your child read them aloud.

  • Counting Games: Count toys, snacks, or steps. Create math story problems and have your child solve using a problem solving strategy.

  • Read & Retell: Read a favorite story and ask your child to tell what happened first, next, and last.

  • Letter Sounds Game: Say a word and have you child chop up the sounds

  • (example: trap "t-r-a-p")

  • Write for Fun: Draw a picture and label it or write a short sentence together.

Just 10–15 minutes a day makes a big difference!

Birthday Parties and In School Celebrations:

We understand that all children deserve to feel loved and celebrated on their BIG day, however FISD policy does not allow students to pass out/share food, candy, or cupcakes. If you would like to send your child with goodie bags with small trinkets/toys that is fine!

If your child is wanting to pass out invitations AT SCHOOL, they must have enough for the entire class. If you would only like to invite a select group, that MUST be done outside of school. This creates conflict in the classroom.

Here are classroom numbers in case you would like to send goodie bags or invitations:

Parker: 19

Jasmine: 19

Aranda: 18

Wenham: 18

Akbar: 19

Snack Reminders Snack Reminders

We have snack time from 2:20 - 2:30 PM . Please pack a healthy, nut-free, utensil-free snack separately from their lunch. Please DO NOT put snacks in your child's lunchbox. They do get the two confused and often eat their snack for lunch and lunch for their snack. Pack separately and have a conversation about the difference with your child. Thank you!

TIP: label "snack" and put it in the front pouch of their backpack! Quick, easy, healthy snacks are best! No nuts, please!

Lunch Restrictions and FYIs:

If your child has any food restrictions, please click here! You can also monitor their purchases and add money to their account. Our cafeteria offers extra snacks and ice cream for students to buy. If you want to prevent your child from buying, please place a restriction on their account. Classroom teachers do not have access to this information and it must be in writing on their account.

If you put the lid on a hot lunch in the morning, it makes it very hard for someone to open it for your child at lunch. It seals shut. Allow it to cool before putting the lid on it. This prevents it from exploding onto the floor at lunch. Thanks!
