NORTH NEWS UPDATE
A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear North Middle Families,
We want to take a moment to explain the purpose of our Norm Notes system, a new tool we are using this year at North Middle School. Norm Notes are a classroom management tool, not a disciplinary action. Their purpose is to address minor behaviors early and keep parents informed before small issues grow into bigger concerns. These notes may reflect things like minor disruptions, being unprepared for class, misuse of technology, tardiness, dress code reminders, or eating and drinking in class. By sharing this information, we can partner with you to support your child and prevent situations that might lead to formal referrals or more serious consequences.
Norm Notes also help reinforce our school expectations—keeping electronics put away, following dress code, making healthy and safe choices, moving safely in the halls, and using positive language. The system is designed to progress gradually: early notes involve conversations between teachers and students, while parent notifications occur at the third and sixth notes. Only after multiple notes (7 or more), and continued concerns, would a student move into the formal referral process.
Please know that our goal is always to work together to help students make positive choices and stay focused on learning in a respectful, responsible, and ready-to-learn environment. If you have questions or would like to discuss your child’s Norm Notes, feel free to reach out—we are here to support you and your student. You may also view a parent information sheet linked below.
Sincerely,
North Middle School Administration
