INNOVATE ASD
Fall 2023
Welcome to the Fall 2023 (despite this snowy morning) edition of "Innovate ASD." This quarterly newsletter is my way of empowering you with the tools and knowledge you need to harness the full potential of technology in your classrooms and for your personal productivity, so I'm excited to share some updates and resources with all of you. At the same time, I want to extend support, so please don't hesitate to schedule a time to collaborate! Additionally, please don't be afraid to reach out to anyone on the tech team at any time! Whatever your problem is, it's important to you, so it's important to us!
Onward and upward to ski season! ⛷️

Commonsense Media has put together a calendar of resources for elementary, middle and high school that touch on various digital citizenship concepts for each day of digital citizenship week. While this is a great time to reinforce digital citizenship, I hope everyone is reinforcing proper use of district technology, staying on task and online etiquette any time students are using devices! Next week would be a great time to reinforce these skills.
You will need to create a FREE teacher account on Commonsense Media to access the resources.
🤷♀️ What's New With Google?
Annotate in Google Slides
Annotation tools in the presenter menu
When you are in present mode, go to the three dots next to the forward and back arrow to find the menu with the pen tool. You can draw over your slides in 4 different colors and the eraser will appear when you make your first annotation. These annotations only stick around until you're done presenting.

👁️ An app that has caught my eye 👁️ - CURIPOD!
Curipod (curipod.com) is an interactive slide presentation tool combined with an AI lesson generator. You can use it to create traditional slides with bullet points, text, and images. But you can also create slides your students interact on. Curipod also uses AI to help you develop quick, targeted lessons on a variety of concepts.
- Polls
- Word clouds
- Open-ended questions
- Drawings
- Q&A slides

Sign up for a free upgraded Canva account!
Click here to join the ASD group. You are welcome to sign up your students as well! Canva is a great app for creating tons of different visuals in your classroom and students can use Canva to show what they know visually as well. One of my favorite features is the Infograpic! I have heard that some of your are in Chris Durham's group which is expiring, so be sure to click on the link and get into the Aspen School District group.
Don't forget about Screencastify
We still subscribe to Screencastify, which sits in your Chrome browser as an extension and allows you to capture your screen to create tutorials and lessons. It never hurts to record an important lesson for your students so they can review. Better yet, flip your classroom and send students home with the learning so they can arrive in class ready to demonstrate that knowledge.
EdPuzzle!
With Edpuzzle, you can make any video your lesson in three easy steps. EdPuzzle now has a LIVE feature. You can have all students watching a video from your board while answering questions on their own device.
Follow these steps:
- Find a video on YouTube, upload your own or re-use a video lesson created by another teacher.
- Then, edit the video to create your lesson. Record your voice to personalize it, and hold your students accountable by embedding questions in the video.
- Assign the video to your students and check their progress in real-time while they learn at their own pace.
