The goal of our Multilingual program is to support English learners and immigrant students. We strive to help students:

  • Learn English and become proficient.
  • Achieve academically at high levels in English.
  • Meet the same state standards as all students.

Schools are required by law to provide services that ensure English learners have equal access to education. This includes:

  • Identification and support: Screening, testing, and notifying families.
  • Access to core instruction: Taught by trained teachers.
  • English Language Development (ELD): Planned and taught by educators with expertise in language learning.

These services are not optional—they are part of every student’s right to a quality education

Family Access on Summit K12 Grades 6-12

Our school now has access to Summit K12, which is an online program that helps our students improve their English language skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary development.

Additionally, Summit K12 helps students prepare for WIDA ACCESS, which is an official test used to monitor students' English language growth.

As parents and guardians, you also have the option to use the program if English is not your primary language and you want to improve your skills. Four Family User Accounts have been created for each student. To find your login information, your student can select Family Access from the My Account dropdown menu.

Please contact your student’s teacher for more information on how to access the Family Access login information. We are excited about the benefits this program provides to our students and families. Please encourage your child to use Summit K12 at home. Your child has been given login credentials to the Summit K12 online course.

Please let us know if you have questions or need any assistance accessing the online course.

It allows them to enhance their own English language development at home by utilizing components from our existing program. It’s a great way for families to engage together in language learning!

How to Log In

Each student enrolled in a Connect to Literacy course has access to four Family User accounts. To find login information for these accounts, your student can select Family Access from the My Account dropdown menu.

Equipping ELLs Grades K-5

Our school’s multilingual program for kindergarten through fifth grade is designed to help students grow confidently in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. We use the Equipping ELLs curriculum along with grade‑level English language arts instruction and WIDA expressive language charts to help students share their ideas using words, sentences, and complete explanations. Teachers carefully adjust and enrich lessons to meet each child’s needs while keeping learning engaging and supportive. Throughout the year, students also receive practice and guidance using WIDA test preparation materials so they feel comfortable and prepared for their annual English language assessment. Our goal is to create a caring learning environment where multilingual learners feel supported, included, and prepared for success both in the classroom and beyond.

Live Instruction- What to Expect Live Instruction- What to Expect

During each class connect session, families virtually invite us into their homes making school at WAVA a unique alternative learning environment where teachers are able to make special efforts to assure that family participation in their child's education is welcome and vital.

Live class connect sessions help establish and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with students' families by directly sharing grade level curriculum and English Language Development learning targets into their homes. Through this real-time communication, teachers continually inform parents about students' participation and work in class to build a common understanding of educational goals for individual students.

WIDA ACCESS WIDA ACCESS

WHAT is it?

It is an English language proficiency test you will take online outside of your home at a secure WAVA testing location. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students. It will test your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. It helps teachers understand whether students have the language skills they need to fully participate in the classroom.

WHY do I have to take this?

Your family answered questions about the language you use at home. A test measured your academic English skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. You can have instruction to help with academic English language to help you in school.

WHEN is it?

You will take the test sometime between January 26th to March 20th. You will receive an email from donotreply@testingnirvana.com in the upcoming days with your specific date and location.

WHERE is it?

At a secure WAVA testing location near your area.
