At Valley View, we believe that great habits build great leaders, and we see this lived out daily through our implementation of the The Leader in Me 7 Habits.

Throughout the year, our students have practiced habits that will serve them far beyond the classroom:

  • Be Proactive – Taking responsibility for their actions and learning
  • Begin with the End in Mind – Setting goals and planning for success
  • Put First Things First – Prioritizing important tasks
  • Think Win-Win – Building positive relationships with others
  • Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood – Listening with empathy
  • Synergize – Working together and valuing teamwork
  • Sharpen the Saw – Taking care of their well-being and continuing to grow

These habits are more than just lessons—they are skills our students are actively applying every day. Whether it’s collaborating with peers, setting academic goals, or demonstrating responsibility, our students are developing into confident, capable leaders.

Final Words: The Power of Enthusiasm

    Amazing Eagles,

As we continue our journey as a Leader in Me campus, I wanted to share a powerful connection between leadership, habits, and enthusiasm.

You may be familiar with John Wooden, one of the most respected coaches of all time. While he is known for his success on the basketball court, his true legacy is rooted in leadership and character development—values that align closely with the 7 Habits we teach and model every day.

Coach Wooden built what he called the Pyramid of Success, and one of his foundational cornerstones was enthusiasm. He believed that enthusiasm is what transforms effort into excellence. In many ways, this directly connects to Habit 1: Be Proactive and Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw—choosing your attitude and bringing your best energy each day.

He defined enthusiasm as something that “brushes off on those around you.” That idea should resonate with us as educators and leaders. The energy we bring into our classrooms and interactions has a direct impact on our students, colleagues, and campus culture.

Coach Wooden also lived by a simple but powerful mindset taught by his father:

    • Don’t whine
    • Don’t complain
    • Don’t make excuses

This aligns strongly with the leadership habits we instill in our students—taking ownership, maintaining a positive mindset, and focusing on what we can control. These are the same principles behind Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind and Habit 3: Put First Things First.

One of his most impactful beliefs was:

“The more concerned we become over the things we can’t control, the less we will do with the things we can control.”

That message is especially important in education. While we cannot control every circumstance, we can control our response, our mindset, and our commitment to our students.

As leaders, our goal is not just to teach content, but to model the habits that will shape our students into future leaders. Enthusiasm, positivity, and consistency are not just nice to have—they are essential.

So I challenge each of you:

    • Reflect on your own enthusiasm
    • Be intentional about the energy you bring each day
    • Continue modeling the 7 Habits in your actions and interactions

Let’s continue to build a culture where leadership is visible, habits are practiced daily, and enthusiasm drives our work.

    Remember…
Together We Are Educating Our Future!
    ¡Juntos Estamos Educando Nuestro Futuro!

    We’ve got this—Si se puede!
