Weekly Homework Packet
This is the weekly homework packet for August 25-29 Due on Friday, August 29
The Homework Packet is sent home each Monday, and it is due by Friday (signed) each week. Each week your child will complete the packet. The packet is made up of a spiral review of Reading, English, and Math skills. Each skill area is separated by day. Students should tun in packet with each day finished by Friday of each week. The students will have a quiz on the topics in the weekly packet. Please sign the reading log. If a child completes his/her homework and returns it, then he/she will earn Superhero Points to spend at the Superhero Store each month. The is scored for Superhero Store Points based on the completion percentage (see above). It is for the practice and family interaction. In a few weeks students will have spelling words to practice. When spelling starts they will get their words in the Homework Packet on Mondays. Students will have a pre-test on Wednesdays and the Final Test on Fridays. The pre-test test is on Wednesday, and if they get 100% correct on the pre-test, they will use that score and will not test on Friday. Remember you can complete the book borrowing sheet and your child will bring home some books at their reading level. The books can be returned at anytime during the week or on Fridays.

Diagnostic Reports on Math & Reading
Included in the purple folder this week will be the results of the Diagnostic Reports for Math and Reading. Exact Path is a K-12 educational program from Edmentum that provides personalized learning paths in reading, and math by combining adaptive diagnostic assessments with immediate, data-driven insights for educators. The program identifies individual student strengths and weaknesses, then generates customized learning paths and uses "Building Blocks" for timely support and remediation, along with built-in motivators like mastery trophies to encourage progress. The students will take these again in December and May to track progress.
Fundations Cursive
A parent letter and practice booklet will be inside the purple folder this week. As letters are introduced they will practice at school. This booklet can stay at home for practice there. Each week students are learning about 3 new letters. We are up to 9 at this point. They have learned lower case b, e, f, h, i, j, k, l, and p. They will learn r, s, t this week. Some letters will be taught the Fundations way and a more traditional way, too.
Fundations introduces cursive handwriting in Level 3, providing a structured, multisensory approach to mastering letter formation and connections. As part of the broader literacy program, cursive instruction aims to improve students' spelling and handwriting automaticity, which in turn supports higher-level written composition.
Key features of the Fundations cursive program
- Systematic and explicit instruction: Instruction is carefully scaffolded and cumulative, building on previously learned skills.
- Structured prep and practice: Before teaching letter formation, teachers prepare students by establishing proper posture, pencil grip, and paper positioning.
- Multisensory techniques: The program uses various engaging, hands-on techniques to reinforce learning and ensure mastery. Activities may include:
- Sky writing: Students use gross motor movements to trace letters in the air.
- Verbalizations: Teachers provide specific verbal cues to guide students through the formation of each letter.
- Writing grids: The Fundations grid system helps students practice letter formation on paper.
- Focus on letter formation and connections: The curriculum demonstrates how to form individual letters, bridges, and connections between letters. Instructional methods are also included for students who have difficulties with handwriting, such as dysgraphia.
- Handwriting automaticity: By integrating handwriting with spelling and decoding, the program helps students achieve greater automaticity, allowing them to focus on the content of their writing rather than the physical act of forming letters.

This is not a time for a personal conference about your child. However, if you would like one, I would be glad to schedule that with you. I will also post information after the meeting for those that were not able to attend.
