Dear PES Families,

We tried something new at our all-school meeting on Friday! Mrs. Obuchowski hosted Are You Smarter Than a 4th Grader? Two teams of students competed against Mrs. Lavoie—you’ll have to ask your child who won! Everyone had a great time watching and cheering them on.

Below you will find a lot of important information, so please read through each section. The PTO is still seeking information for the Buzz Book, the Community Forum is coming up this week, and our school nurse has included some helpful information. You will also find details about Spirit Week for Read Across America, which will take place after February Break.

News from the Wellness Committee

Cold and flu (influenza) season has begun. Illness spreads from person to person. Help us prevent the spread of germs in the school setting.

Here are a few ways you can help:

Know the signs of the flu and/or other respiratory illness.

o Signs may include: fever greater than 100 degrees, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea.

Keep sick students at home.

o Students should stay at home for at least 24 hours after the last signs of a fever without using medicine.

o Students should not return to school within 24 hours of the last sign of vomiting or diarrhea.

o Students with a constant cough should stay home until medicine relieves it.

o Any student who is sick with a fever over 100 degrees, or illness-related vomiting or diarrhea at school, should go home.

Report their absence to the school nurse.

o If your student is out sick with the flu or flu-like illness, please let the school know.

o If leaving an email or voicemail message when calling your student in, please be as specific as possible with current symptoms.

Encourage your student to wash their hands.

o Hand washing with soap and water is often the best way to reduce the spread of germs.

Encourage your student to cover their coughs and sneezes (with a tissue or their elbow).

Encourage your student not to share.

o Students should not share their personal items, like their food or water bottles.

As always, please reach out to the Health Office with any questions or concerns.

ConVal School Board Community Forum

The ConVal School District invites all residents to a Community Forum discussing the budget, warrant articles, open enrollment, and the proposed withdrawal of Francestown from the ConVal School District

The event will be held on February 18, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the Lucy Hurlin Theatre at ConVal High School. A snow date has been scheduled for March 4, 2026, at 7:00 PM.

We encourage all residents to attend and participate in the discussion on these important topics affecting our community. This event will be live-streamed on the ConVal Events YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@ConValEvents), and it will be available for viewing anytime thereafter.

PTO Buzz Book

As mentioned last week, the PTO is reviving the “Buzz Book,” an opt-in student directory which has been offered by the PTO in past years.

As of Wednesday of this week, we have received contact information for just 34 students. In order for the Buzz Book to be truly useful, we need much more participation! We recognize that many families still have the directories which were issued by the school two years ago, and/or individual class lists which have been provided since that time. Moving forward, the Buzz Book will be your best source for parent contact information, particularly email addresses.

If you would like to share your contact information, please fill out the Google Form below. The information you choose to provide will be shared with other PES families, but we will not share your information with anyone else in any format.

Your inclusion in the Buzz Book is strictly voluntary and you may choose to provide as much or as little information as is comfortable for you. None of the contact information fields are required, but in order for your entry to be useful it is a good idea to provide at least one method of contact.

We ask that you please make sure to include your child’s grade and teacher name.

This directory is a project of the PES PTO and is not a ConVal-sponsored student directory.
