Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear Bethany Families,

We had a LOT of fun on Wednesday afternoon celebrating our collective fundraising efforts with the school-wide reward of an INFLATABLE CHARACTER RACE! The entire school gathered around an obstacle course inside of the track while a staff member representing every grade level competed in head-to-head competitions and a final race. Thank you to our competitors who all demonstrated perseverance and good humor in the event:

Racing for Kindergarten: Ms. Heidi (orange tube guy)

First Grade: Mr. Smith. (yellow shark)

Second Grade: Mx. Regan (unicorn)

Third Grade: Ms. Gettling (pink shark)

Fourth Grade: Mr. Cushman (astronaut) ⭐🏆⭐ Winner! ⭐🏆⭐

Fifth Grade: Mr. Stewart (gray hammerhead shark)

Thank you to Emily Logue, Megan Norris, Olivia Zinn, Beth Pacyk, Kristi Varella and Jessica Irwin for the organization, set up, and clean up of this awesome experience!

Check out the photos and video below and enjoy the fun!

On a personal note...

My oldest son, Alexander, is a senior in college studying abroad in southern France (Aix-en-Provence). I will be leaving on Friday to visit him during his Fall Break. I am leaving your precious children in the very capable hands of our amazing staff and my long-time mentor and friend, Stacy Geale. Mrs. Geale is a retired BSD principal and is available to support students, staff, and families while I am away. You can email her directly at: stacy_geale@beaverton.k12.or.us or contact the office for assistance (503-356-2030). I will return to Bethany on November 3rd. 🥰

Our community showed up BIG for this year's jog-a-thon fundraiser and we can't thank you enough. With over 150 volunteers from start to finish, our student's ran over 2,700 laps, and together we raised just over $55,000. Thank you for showing up for our teachers, for our staff, and most importantly for our students.

Yesterday, we celebrated exceeding our fundraising goal with an obstacle course ran by our teachers and staff in inflatable costumes. It was hilarious and fun and full of Bobcat energy! We cheered, we laughed, and we celebrated what an incredible community we continue to cultivate together. Thank you!

In The Door by 7:44! In The Door by 7:44!

Every morning is a new opportunity for success, and arriving on time sets the tone for a great day of learning, connection, and confidence. When students are at school by 7:45, they’re ready to dive into their day, greet their friends and teachers, and make the most of every moment.

We truly appreciate your efforts in helping your student start each day on time—it makes a big difference!

Here’s a quick look at our late arrival numbers this week (late = after 7:45):

  • Monday: 37 students
  • Tuesday: 62 students *This is just over 15% of our student population*
  • Wednesday: 42 students
  • Thursday: 57 students

Let’s work together to bring those numbers down and keep the momentum going. Every day counts—and every minute matters!

We were inspired by Hiteon Elementary's snappy little slogan to help children and families get to school on time, "In the door by 7:44." Mrs. Burton made this cute graphic and Mrs. Kropilak created the video with a fun theme song below.

AVID Volunteer Opportunities

AVID tutorials have begun or are starting soon! These weekly sessions are a core part of the AVID Elective, where students collaborate to tackle academic challenges by asking and answering higher-level questions with their peers. 15 amazing volunteers have already been placed across 12 schools, but more support is needed! If you have any time in your schedule, we’d love your help as an adult tutor.

The following schools are still in need of volunteers: Aloha-Huber Park, Beaverton HS, Cedar Park MS, Highland Park MS, and Meadow Park MS.

You can watch this short video to learn more and sign up here on this Google Form.

If you have any questions, Please reach out to Helen Cai at Helen_Cai@beaverton.k12.or.us.

Thank you for considering this opportunity!

🚗🚌🚙. PARKING LOT REQUEST🚗🚌🚙 🚗🚌🚙. PARKING LOT REQUEST🚗🚌🚙

Morning arrival time and afternoon dismissal are the busiest times of the day at Bethany. SAFETY is our first priority, followed by providing a warm and welcoming start to everyone's day.

To that end, we would like to ask people to AVOID the need to use the crosswalk whenever possible. We understand there are some special cases, but in general, here are some helpful alternatives:

  • Drop off and pick up your child at the curb. We provide curbside door service to help your child in and out of the passenger side of your vehicle and staff to support the transition inside if needed.
  • If you really want to park and walk your child to the door, please use the lower parking lot and then walk along the sidewalk in front of the school, then we don't need to stop traffic twice for parents coming and going each way.
  • Use off-campus parking in the cul-de-sac on Ashland Ave or on NW 178th Ave and then walk in along the sidewalk. Older students can meet their parents near the those locations to avoid the parking lot chaos altogether at dismissal time.

We really appreciate your help with keeping traffic moving smoothly and helping to keep everyone safe. If you have any questions or need help working out a solution for your specific situation, please don't hesitate to reach out to the office. 💛

We love having families involved at school, and volunteering is a great way to connect and support our students and staff. To help keep everyone safe, all volunteers need to complete an application through our district’s volunteer system, Raptor, and pass an Oregon criminal background check. Once you're approved, you'll get a confirmation email.

Update: If you were in the system last year, you are still approved.

Thanks so much for your support—we couldn’t do it without you!
