CELL PHONE POLICY:

On February 20, 2025, the “Bell to Bell, No Cell” bill (SB 142) was signed by Governor Sanders, and this new law will go into effect for the 2025-2026 school year. This law notes that public schools must restrict the possession and use of personal electronic devices during the school day. This law also defines the term “school day,” as the time students are required to be at school until the time students are dismissed from school. Personal electronic device is defined as, Cellular telephones; Paging devices; Beepers; Mobile telephones that offer advanced computing and internet accessibility; Digital media players; Portable game consoles; Tablets, notebooks, or laptop computers; Digital cameras; Digital video or audio recorders; Smart watches; and Any device that can connect and transmit data through Bluetooth technology. All personal electronic devices must be silenced and stored in their school-issued Yondr Pouch by 8:25AM. All scholars will receive their Yondr pouch on the first day of school, and devices must be kept in the Yondr pouch at all times. Please review the Cell Phone Procedures.

WEAPONS DETECTION SYSTEM:

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure and supportive learning environment, Fayetteville Public Schools will implement the use of a weapons detection system. The weapons detection system will be placed at each entry point during morning arrival. All scholars will be required to pass through them. The process will be conducted with respect for scholar privacy and dignity. Trained staff will be present to support a smooth and respectful screening process. Scholars will be taught all expectations pertaining to passing through the metal detectors during orientation on the first day of school. The use of a weapons detection system is not in response to any specific threat, but rather part of a broader effort to strengthen school safety.
