Digital Literacy students progressing in navigating, understanding the web
In Ms. Pacheco’s Digital Literacy class, students are discovering just how exciting and meaningful the virtual world can be. The class is designed to help students navigate digital tools, understand online environments, and grow into responsible, confident digital citizens.
Research shows that when students feel invested in their learning and believe in the value of what they are doing, their chances of success increase significantly. This has certainly proven true in Digital Literacy, where students are actively engaged in conversations, projects, and thought-provoking questions.
One of the class’s recent discussion prompts asked: “What do you think is better—virtual learning or brick-and-mortar learning, and why?” The students’ responses were not only insightful but also inspiring. They shared their perspectives with openness and respect, and the conversations revealed how thoughtfully they are considering the benefits and challenges of both styles of learning.
What made the activity even more powerful was how students supported one another’s ideas. The discussions became more than just answers to a question—they turned into a learning experience that gave everyone new ways of seeing and understanding.
Ms. Pacheco’s class is showing that digital learning is not only about technology, but also about connection, communication, and building skills that will benefit students far beyond the classroom. With each new discussion and activity, students are proving that when learning feels meaningful, success naturally follows.

October is National Principals Month
October is National Principals Month, and we are so fortunate at the North Carolina Cyber Academy to have three amazing Principals leading our schools - Micah Copeland (Elementary School), Clarissa Fleming (Middle School), and Dr. Chris Vecchione (High School), along with an outstanding collection of Assistant Principals and administrators.
On behalf of a grateful group of colleagues, parents, students, and stakeholders, we all extend a happy National Principals Month and best wishes to all of our tremendous NC Cyber Academy Principals!

NC Cyber encourages families to turn on cameras for live lessons
At the North Carolina Cyber Academy, we know that learning is more than just hearing—it’s about seeing, interacting, and truly engaging.
That’s why we encourage students to turn their cameras on during live lessons. Research shows that this simple action can make a big difference:
Boosts engagement and focus: Students who keep their cameras on report deeper attention and more active participation in class discussions and activities.
Strengthens connection and motivation: Seeing and being seen fosters social presence, creating trust, rapport, and a stronger sense of belonging between students and teachers.
Enhances academic performance and enjoyment: Recent studies reveal that webcam use significantly improves learning outcomes—and enjoyment is a key part of that boost.
Encourages peer accountability: When classmates are visible, camera use becomes contagious—motivating the whole class to stay present and participate.
At NC Cyber Academy, we believe in making our virtual classrooms feel as vibrant and dynamic as real-life ones. Cameras help build community, enhance learning—and just make class feel more alive.
Ready to make the most of your virtual classroom? Keep on camera, and let’s learn together!

Literacy at Home: Digital Children's Reading Initiative
In order to provide continuing support for North Carolina’s youngest readers, The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Office of Early Learning has developed and released “Literacy at Home.” This digital resource provides literacy activities at each grade level, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Families and communities may access this resource for activities that specifically target the literacy skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and oral language. When children grow in each of these foundational areas they are well on their way to becoming proficient readers.
