K-8 Campus Updates

Greetings Grizzly Families,

This week our students will participate in our Tornado drill as this was postponed from March 5th. Again, you are invited to review a few resources to assist in preparations for severe weather. See Tornado resources links: Get Weather Ready-Before Tornado, During a Tornado, After a Tornado

Additionally, this week students without referrals will be able to participate in a Student-Selected Spirit Day this Friday. They have voted for a “Chillax” Day for students in 6-8th grades, meaning on this day students with the designated wristband MAY wear sweatpants and or leggings. Student in K-5 may wear PJ’s. So, be on the lookout for these in the latter part of the week, as it will be needed for participation.

Finally, we have officially entered into “March MADness” as a collective effort to maintain Motivation, Academic focus and Determination to Finish Strong this year, while striving to obtain “MAD Success.” This means our Grizzlies (& staff) have been challenged to “Level UP” in our efforts towards core instruction and growth in iREADY. We are taking ownership & accountability! Therefore, you may hear about iREADY in elective classes in addition to core classes. Our Grizzlies will also be recognized and celebrated for their accomplishments. #LetsGoGrizzlies

As always thank you for your support and have a great week! #GrizzlyPride

Thanks,

Mrs. Spencer

8th Grade Tours at the HS Campus

On Friday, our 8th Grade CGS students toured our High School Campus. Our upper classmen took time to show our students around the campus and they even got to tour and visit in some high school classrooms. This was a great opportunity for our students to ask questions and get information prior to officially becoming Freshman next school year. Thank you to our mentors/Junior Civitans and any other organizations that had our high school students assisting/helping with our tours! It was an awesome experience for our students. Thank you to our staff for attending and supporting this event, driving the bus and helping organize it. Thank you to Mr. Kane for setting up this event. #GrowingGrizzlies! #K-12

AYLA Luncheon in Alamance County

Shout out to our CGS AYLA students (Alamance Youth Leadership Academy) who attended a luncheon event with other business leaders in the community. Our students had to practice social etiquette, respect, and practice conversational skills to converse with adults at their tables. One of our students, Mr. Stryker Gerringer even got a compliment from a business leader in the community. #GRIZZLYPROUD!

See below:

"I was able to sit with Stryker, an 8th grade Clover Garden student, at the Chambers AYLA event today. I wanted to send you a message to let you know how very much I enjoyed his company for lunch. I attend many events with professionals often and today's event marks one of my favorites with Stryker's company. His ability to carry on a conversation with an unknown adult was wonderful. I just had to send my accolades to you and the community of Clover Garden. Stryker will continue to grow to be a great member of our community and I am certain I will see his name or meet him again."

Faculty/Staff Shout Out: Mrs. Dockery

Shout out to Mrs. Dockery who was recognized and complimented by a student's parent recently on her interaction and behaviors displayed on our 7th grade field trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. Mrs. Dockery was recognized for her willingness to ride on roller coasters (despite getting motion sickness) in order to accommodate a student who needed/wanted an adult to accompany them on the ride. She was also complimented on her kindness, patience, and willingness to support all of the students. Thank you Mrs. Dockery for your continued willingness to put our CGS student needs first and foremost! She's an excellent teacher and leader at CGS! Keep up the great work!

Whether you’ve got creative ideas, a knack for organizing, time to volunteer, or would like to donate items or treats—we’d love your help!

If you’re interested in joining the planning committee, contributing supplies, or volunteering during the week, please take a moment to fill out our quick interest survey. If you have any questions please reach out to Franchesca Jones at fcjones1125@gmail.com.

Let’s come together to make this a week our teachers will never forget—because they deserve it!

Volunteer Needs:

  • Various Committees at CGS
  • "Duty Free" lunch for our teachers
  • Classroom Tutoring Support
  • Hallway Monitors for End of Year Testing (K-8 Campus)

If you are interested in volunteering or able to assist with any of the needs listed, please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteercgs@cgsnc.org.

Testing Calendar- 2024-2025

The Testing Schedule for March is listed below.

**LOOKING AHEAD: Please note that the month of May is VERY BUSY with testing requirements. We have to test all of our students in grades 3rd-12th that are enrolled in EOGs or EOC classes per state requirements. This means, that all students need to be in attendance for their scheduled EOG/EOC exams on the date of the exam or they will be required to make them up upon their return to school. We are required to test all enrolled students in EOGs and EOCs per state standards/regulations - so please make sure that your student is ready to test for those standardized state tests as they are scheduled the last 2 weeks of school. Thank you for your support with this!

Please contact our District Testing Coordinator, Ms. Ginter at tonyaginter@cgsnc.org for any questions or concerns.

Summer Learning Program- 2nd-8th Grade Students

CGS Parents,

This summer we will be offering remediation and the re administration of our End of Grade Exams for students in Grades 3rd-8th. (2nd grade students that are really close to being on grade level per their lexile level results on I-Ready/MClass will be invited to the program as well) Although, we really hope to have ALL of our students show proficiency on our End of Grade Exams, we know that sometimes students may need "one more opportunity" to retake the assessment after intensive review/remediation. This option will be offered to some of our students after the completion of the EOGs. This will be an invite only option and will be targeted to those students who were "really close!" to making a level 3 on their EOGs. The dates and times of the Summer Learning Program are listed below. We will let you know via invite if your student would meet the criteria for the program and if it will be an option for them at the end of the school year.

Dates/Times:

  • May 29th- June 12th
  • Daily 7:40 A.M. until 3:00 P.M.
  • Students who are not in danger of failing a subject area but who scored a level of "Not Proficient" on their end of grade exams in Math or ELA.
