The Wildkat Word: February 2025
Wildkat Families,
I hope you all stayed safe and warm during last month's winter weather! It’s not often we get to see snow in Willis, and while it was a fun surprise, I know many of us are ready for the return of sunshine and warmer days. That said, I hear we may have another cold snap before spring fully arrives - so don’t put away those coats just yet!
Although the semester kicked off with a brisk chill in the air, our schools are flourishing like never before. Students and staff are immersed in their work, fueled by a palpable enthusiasm for learning and growth. Everywhere you look, there are stories of success blossoming across the district. We deeply appreciate your unwavering support as we journey forward together, embracing each new challenge and celebrating every achievement.
Go Kats!
Dr. Kimberley James
Superintendent, Willis ISD
At Willis ISD, we prioritize open and effective communication with our families. To enhance our service, we are introducing a new Communications Process on our website. This system will help ensure that your questions and concerns are directed to the appropriate individual, allowing for quicker and more efficient responses.
What’s Changing?
We recognize that it can sometimes be difficult to find the right person to contact. This new process will provide a step-by-step guide to help you identify the appropriate point of contact before submitting an inquiry, which will reduce delays and misrouted messages. How Does It Work?
A "Contact Us" button will be available on the right side of district and campus websites.
Clicking the button will walk you through a step-by-step communication flow, helping you determine the best person to assist you.
Once you’ve found the appropriate contact, you’ll be redirected to a Contact Request Form, which will automatically connect your inquiry to the correct staff member.
The designated staff member will receive an email notification and will respond to your request as soon as possible.
Communication Levels:
- Level 1: Campus Receptionist – General inquiries, schedules, events, and policies.
- Level 2: Teacher – Questions related to class content, grades, and assignments.
- Level 3: School Nurse – Health-related concerns, immunizations, and student well-being.
- Level 4: Counselor – Student support, academic planning, and social-emotional concerns.
- Level 5: Campus Administrator – Issues unresolved at prior levels.
- Level 6: District Department – Larger concerns requiring district-level resolution.
Why Does This Matter?
This structured approach ensures that your questions reach the right person quickly and efficiently, improving communication between families and staff. We encourage you to use this new tool to streamline communication. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support of Willis ISD!

Willis ISD has launched its Paws of PRIDE program - a special initiative to recognize staff who go above and beyond in their daily roles.
Alongside Superintendent Dr. James, we created the acronym PRIDE.
This acronym stands for:
- Passionate
- Responsive
- Innovative
- Dynamic
- Empathetic
These five values reflect what we expect from our Wildkat staff. Utilizing a form, staff and community members can send personalized appreciation cards to any staff member who they believe is going above and beyond in their duties.
After a thoughtful review, we’re thrilled to recognize Lagway Elementary’s Kameron Wilder, Lynn Lucas Middle School's Amanda Cheatham, and Cannan Elementary's Richard Kreitz
as last month's Paws of PRIDE honorees! These outstanding staff members have made a remarkable impact on those around them, truly embodying our PRIDE values. They were both honored by the Willis ISD Board of Trustees at the January board meeting.
We encourage you to show your appreciation year-round by submitting a Paws of PRIDE card for any staff member who goes above and beyond. It’s a great way to recognize their hard work and dedication!

In Willis ISD, safety is our number one priority, and we will not tolerate behavior that threatens the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Students and parents can utilize the district’s anonymous alerts system to report any suspicious or known activity. K12 Anonymous Alert allows for anonymous reporting (or you can add your information, and we can reply). It also sends messages to school and district administrators 24 hours a day directly on our phones. The alert system can be accessed on the Willis ISD mobile app or on the website linked below!
Ensuring regular attendance is crucial, but we also recognize the significance of family vacations. With that in mind, we designed a comprehensive vacation planning document to assist families in organizing their trips during the academic year.
