Meet Our New Team members
Mrs. Beth Jones β School Counselor
Hi! My name is Mrs. Jones, and Iβm excited to be your counselor this year. Iβve been working in Colton Joint Unified School District for 26 years and love helping students reach their goals.
I started my college journey at Crafton Hills College, then earned my Bachelorβs degree at Cal State San Bernardino. After that, I went to the University of Redlands, where I earned my Masterβs in Counseling along with my PPS, Teaching, and Administrative Credentials.
When Iβm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband of 17 years and our three daughters. We love camping, off-roading, and being outdoors together.
I look forward to supporting you through high school and helping you prepare for your future!
Mrs. Andrea Castillo- EL Counselor
Hello, I'm Andrea Castillo, and I am your new English Learner (EL) Counselor.
My journey in advising began at La Sierra University, where I served as an academic advisor and counselor for Disability Services. Most recently, I worked as a school counselor at Grand Terrace High School.
Having earned a bachelorβs degree in Sociology from La Sierra University and a masterβs degree in Counseling from the University of Redlands, I am motivated to help reduce the obstacles preventing students from reaching their potential. My work is focused on building connections with students to strengthen engagement and help them reach their full potential through continuous skill-building. I also serve as a dedicated advocate for student needs, ensuring they receive the support necessary for success.
I look forward to working with students, families, and staff to ensure every Yellowjacket feels supported, valued, and prepared for the future.
Information & Announcements
NOW AVAILABLE!- QR Code for Appointments With Counselors
We are excited to announce our new system for scheduling appointments with your counselors!
Students and Parents are now able to make appointments by simply scanning a QR code, and completing the electronic request form. This new system is designed to make it faster and easier for students and parents to access counselors, whether it's for academic advising, college planning, or personal support.
You will find the QR code located to the right. The Code will also be posted for students and parents in the counseling office.
Class and Period Change Requests
Students, the deadline has passed for ALL class and period changes. We have found that many students request schedule changes at this time, because they are struggling in a particular class. We really encourage you to let your teachers know that you are having an issue! Your teacher is your biggest advocate in the classroom. They know the course material best and can provide extra help, suggest you do tutoring, clarify concepts you don't understand, or even suggest specific resources. Don't be shyβthey want to help you succeed!
We also suggest alerting your parents. They can assist you in finding the root of the problem. Is it the content, the homework load, or something else? Your parent/guardian can also help you approach your teacher, to work on a solution.
Subject Online Program
The District has informed us that students can now be enrolled in the Subject Online program! The online classes will be available to students needing to make-up credits, or who are in unique credit situations. Counselors will be notifying eligible students and their parents or guardians, sharing program details. After receiving parent/guardian approval, counselors will submit a program application. You can reach out to your counselor to see if your are eligible, and with any questions you have about Subject.
Senior Academic Reviews
We are in the final stretch of our academic review meetings with seniors and their parents. These productive sessions cover a lot of ground, including credit and GPA checks, post-graduation planning, and essential deadlines for college and financial aid. We are also happy to report that we are seeing great parent participation this year.
More Ways to Connect With Counselors
Students will still be able to connect with counselors by email. Below you will find your counselor's email address. We are also available to chat with you during lunch. Look for us around the MPR Tuesdays & Fridays during lunch time. Feel free to approach us with questions or just to chat. Also, stay tuned for our LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES for students this school year.
