3. Ecology News

The courtyard garden is fully loaded with veggies. A Husky favorite is creating chard or lettuce wraps. Pick a leaf and fill it with dill, broccoli flowers, cauliflower, green onions etc. and eat!

Mark your calendars: Work Day March 22 7-11 am

We can't keep the habitats healthy without your support. Thank you!

4. Character Strong Trait of the Month for March is Cooperation

This month’s focus is Cooperation. One way to think about Cooperation is “working together to reach shared goals.” As a family, talk about how this definition applies to how you work together at home. What are some goals you share?

Cooperation is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

5. Mark Your Calendars!

Be sure to save the date for the following events:

  • March 4 - Spring Pictures
  • March 7 - No School for Grading Day
  • March 10-14 - No School for Spring Break!

PTA Update!

*****************************************************************************************************

🌟 Sam Hughes PTA Grant Program – New Round Open! 🌟

After a great January round, the PTA is delighted to announce that we are now open to proposals for grant funding again!

Last time, we were able to fund requests for brand new classroom furniture, STEM building kits, and more – plus, contributing to what we know will be an amazing fifth grade field trip! We want to keep it going, bringing other enriching experiences and projects – and yes, probably more chairs – to Sam Hughes.

Teachers, school support staff, students, parents and community members with great ideas are invited to apply for funding. For consideration for this round, please submit your project by April 7th. Later submissions will be considered for the next round.

Key Details & Eligibility:

  • Apply Here: Sam Hughes PTA Grant Submission Form
  • Deadline: April 7th, 2025
  • Eligible Projects: Initiatives that benefit classrooms or student groups, including technology upgrades and curriculum enhancements.
  • Ineligible Projects: Vague or incomplete proposals, or those requiring lots of external management.

Who Can Apply?

  • Teachers: Bring your classroom ideas to life.
  • Students: Drive change with innovative projects.
  • Parents & Community Members: Help improve our school with your unique vision.

Got questions or need advice on your proposal? Contact the PTA Grant Committee at samhughespta@gmail.com. Let’s work together to continue enhancing our vibrant school community. Don't miss this chance to contribute your innovative ideas!

🪴 Your Tax Credit Helps Our Huskies Grow! 🪴

Join us in making a difference for our students at Sam Hughes Elementary! Your Arizona tax credit helps fund amazing programs like fine arts education, chess lessons, and our beloved Ecology and Garden programs.

What is a tax credit? It’s a dollar-for-dollar credit on your Arizona state taxes—at no extra cost to you! Contribute up to $200 (single) or $400 (married), and if you owe more in state taxes than you give, you’ll get every dollar back as a refund or reduction on your tax bill.

Here’s what your tax credit supports:

  • Learn healthy eating by planting, harvesting, and sampling fresh veggies from our ‘garden to mouth’ program.
  • Study nature by making observations and collecting data on insects, birds, lizards, plants and tortoises in our habitat areas.
  • Plan and carry out investigations in seed spacing, composting, watersheds (models), pollination and more!
  • Enjoy Sam Hughes traditions, like snacking on grapefruit straight from the tree and blending green smoothies!

How you can help:

  • Donate and Make Your Impact: Visit our tax credit portal to learn more and donate online.
  • Spread the Word! Share this opportunity with friends and family—anyone who pays Arizona state taxes can help!

Support our students by directing your tax credit to Sam Hughes Elementary. Every contribution helps enrich our educational programs!
