An Update from Hough Elementary

Hough News
We have had an amazing kick-off to the school year! I want to send a huge thank you to the PTO for hosting the Back to School BBQ and ribbon cutting ceremony. The weather was gorgeous, the food was perfect and the energy and laughter was contagious. It was wonderful to see so many Hough families attend and celebrate the beginning of the school year together. I also want to extend my gratitude to the PTO for bringing the Whoa Show to Hough! Hopefully your kids shared some of the fun they had as they watched our keynote fit himself in a balloon as he talked about kindness and being proud to show your authentic self! Finally, we had a great crowd at our Curriculum Night this week. Our staff loves to showcase all of the amazing work that our students are already engaging in during class.

The First Student Leadership Council Meeting of the Year
Chalk Walk
Student Leadership Council is inviting all Hough students to join them after school on Monday, September 15th, for Chalk Walk. We will decorate the little playground pavement with chalk artwork focused this month's Character Strong theme; Kindness. No registration is required. Pick-up will be on the Hough Little Playground at 3:15PM. Please contact Mrs. Goitein or Mr. George with any questions.
Run Club (3rd, 4th & 5th Grade)
Mrs. Keller and Miss Meckert are excited to announce that Run Club for 3rd - 5th graders will be open for registration starting on Monday, September 8th at 8:30AM (look for an email). Run Club will meet after school on the big playground, every Monday, beginning on 9/15, until 3:15PM. Run Club culminates on Monday, October 20th at the all-district cross country meet, where 5th graders run a one mile race and younger grades run a half mile race at Ron Beese Park. This is great way to build friendships and endurance. All abilities are welcome.
- Run Club (3rd, 4th, 5th grades) - Mondays (9/15 - 10/13) from 2:45 - 3:15 Hough Playground
- Barrington 220 Cross Country Meet - Monday, 10/20 from 4:00 - 5:30 Ron Beese Park
Character Strong
We continue to highlight Character Strong throughout the school day. Congratulations to Miss Meckert's 3rd grade class for winning the Character Strong trophy last week. Hot off the presses...Hip hip hooray to Mrs. Jagielski's 4th graders as they were awarded the trophy moments ago!
Library Volunteers
Parents! We could use some volunteers to help shelve shelving books in the library. Our schedule is very flexible - any time during school hours works. Please email Mrs. Koegel to let her know your availability. If you like quiet, we can schedule you when there are no classes meeting. If you like it busy, you can come in when students are in the library. Thank you.
Pass it On
We are collecting your gently used Hough or Barrington spiritwear to pass along to families who may need some swag. There is a bin in the front vestibule, near the office.
