Grade 7's Fenway Park Field Trip

On Wednesday, our 7th graders had a great day at Fenway Park in Boston. The students first attended a STEM Fair before the game, details on the exhibit in the pictures below. Grade 7 Team Leader Ms. McLeod, who arranged the field trip at no cost to students through a grant that she wrote, said, “I honestly can’t say enough good things about the day.” The students, the weather (a few sunburns notwithstanding), and the game, a 5-0 Red Sox victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, were all terrific. The staff pointed out that another key factor was the lack of phones. While our students were engaged with the STEM presentations, in conversations with one another, and with the game itself, other groups had their heads down looking at phones. Letting kids be kids without the ever-present technology will always be part of our field trip protocol as it will be for grade 6 at Ecology School and grade 8 in Washington D.C. The 7th grade staff members are adding all of their pictures from the trip to google classroom and will share them with grade 7 families once they are ready. In the meantime, here are a few pictures.

A Reminder About Drinks In School

We have recently noticed a growing trend of students bringing outside beverages into the building to drink during class—especially the very popular Dunkin’ Refreshers! While we want our students to stay hydrated and energized, we need to share a quick reminder regarding our school's drink policy.

  • Water Only in Classrooms: To protect our learning environments, only clear water is permitted in classrooms and carpeted areas.

  • The Reason Behind the Rule: Spills are an inevitable part of the school day. When water spills, it is easily wiped up and simply evaporates. However, sugary or brightly colored beverages stain our carpets, leave behind a sticky residue, and can attract pests.

  • The Cafeteria Exception: If your student would like to enjoy a non-water beverage during their lunch block in our tiled cafeteria, they are absolutely welcome to do so. We just ask that these drinks be brought to school in a safe, sealed, screw-top container to prevent sticky messes in backpacks, lockers, and hallways.

Thank you for your help in discussing these expectations with your students and for partnering with us to keep our school clean and comfortable!

Step Up To The Plate: The IMS Walk For Hunger Is Fast Approaching!

Mark your calendars! The annual IMS Walk for Hunger is officially scheduled for Friday, April 17th.

This year, our community's support is more critical than ever. With the rising costs of gas and groceries impacting families locally and beyond, food insecurity is a pressing challenge for many. We are hopeful that, together, we can step up and not only meet but exceed our fundraising goal to help those who need it most.

Every dollar makes a difference. If you are able to contribute, you can easily make a donation by clicking the donation button below.

Please keep an eye on your inbox—a separate email was sent out with all the specific details, permission slips, and everything your student needs to know to prepare for the walk.

Thank you for your continued generosity and for helping us show that IMS cares!
