Social Studies with Mr. Anderson

This week in Social Studies we are starting a short unit on early man. We will be studying how the need for steady resources led man to go from being a hunter/gather to become a farmer. We will learn about the differences between neolithic man and paleolithic man and how tools made life easier. The kids were outstanding in week one and I look forward to an even better week leading into Labor Day. Please email me any questions or concerns.

Science with Ms. Darnell

This week we are going to start talking about lab safety. There will be a google form sent out this week for you and your student to sign, stating that together you went over the lab safety expectations for this year. I hope everyone has had a great first week back!

Literacy with Mrs. Moline

This week in Literacy we will set up our Writer's Notebooks and start to delve into this year's theme - Truth. Through poetry, we will review figurative language and the difference between the connotation and denotation of words.

Math with Mrs. Burgess

Whew! It was so nice to see everyone's smiling faces last week. We hit the ground running. Students explored different google products that we will be using in math class this year. I would like students to complete and TURN IN all assignments from last week. I want them to get in the habit of "turning in" work. This week we are reviewing multiplication. Please look for recordings in google classroom. I had a glitch with recording this morning, but Ms. Goodwin helped me figure it out. I will be recording this afternoon and posting the work from today (8-31) this afternoon.

Students will take the Math MAPS test on Thursday.

If a student is absent from the classroom for any reason--please look at google classroom. I plan on posting all the needed materials. I use problem strips for math, if possible, please print out and then cut and glue into the math notebook. If you do not have access to a printer, please complete the handwritten work and get a copy of the problem to glue in when you return to class.

MAPS Testing on Tuesday and Thursday

Parents,

We will be MAPS testing this week for our students in the building on Tuesday (Reading) and Thursday (Math).

It is important they do the following

1. Get a GREAT night sleep

2. Eat a healthy breakfast

3. Bring a snack

4. Fully charge and bring their Chromebook to school

5. Relax

Our schedule for Tuesday and Thursday will go by our normal bell schedule

Period 1 Math, Science, or Encore

Period 2 Social Studies, Literacy, or Encore

Period 3 MAPS Testing with HR Teacher

Period 4 MAPS Testing with HR Teacher

Lunch

PLT MAPS Testing with HR Teacher

Period 5 Social Studies, Math, Science, or Literacy

Period 6 PE

During Period 1 or 2, and then Period 5 The students will complete assignments given by their four CORE Classes using Google Classroom. Two assignments per period. This way no class will be behind or ahead of another when we get finished with testing.

Absent Kids

Our administration is working on a plan for these kids and we will get back to you as soon they get answers if they make it up upon return or not.

If your child is absent, please check for their daily assignments in their Google Classroom under Coursework. Each week is categorized by the day. Please email your teachers any questions about assignments or Google Meets. Please do not procrastinate on assignments. The Google Classroom has taken the place of the traditional agenda.
