August 11 - August 15
School Starts this Wednesday, August 13 at 9am!
We’re looking forward to the first day of school this Wednesday, August 13, at 9:00 a.m.—and we hope you are too! We recommend arriving a little earlier than usual, as traffic during the first few days is typically heavier. Most of today’s announcements are the same as last week’s update, so if you missed registration days, you’ll find the link for data confirmation and other important back-to-school details. I also want to highlight tomorrow’s WEB Day for our 6th graders—we hope everyone can attend! And don’t forget to read the welcome letter from our Madison PTA; we encourage you to join this wonderful group of volunteers who support our students and school community.
Let’s make this year a great one, Madison Mustangs! We can’t wait to see you on Wednesday!

Dear Madison Middle School Families,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! I’m excited to kick off another purposeful year at Madison Middle School and honored to continue serving as your PTA President. I’m Dr. Rebecca Celes Mendiola, proud parent of an 8th grader, Joseph!
This is my second year as Madison’s PTA President, and I also serve as VP of Programs with VUCPTA and Executive VP of our Special Education PTA, roles that reflect my deep commitment to inclusive, districtwide family and community engagement.
I’m grateful to be joined by a wonderful PTA Board whose dedication and creativity will help lead this work. Together, we’re excited to build a year of connection, collaboration, and impact.
This year, our PTA is excited to launch focused goals aligned with Madison Middle School, Vista Unified, and VUCPTA priorities. Together, we will:
Deepen family and community engagement in student success
Elevate student and family voice, expanding access to relationships and opportunities
Strengthen support systems for academic, mental, and social-emotional wellness
Supporting students takes many forms, and we’re here to help families navigate them. Whether it’s attending events, advocating for your child, or decoding school systems and acronyms, our PTA will offer inclusive, meaningful ways to get involved. Whether you're new or returning, we’re here to make the journey approachable and impactful.

Data Confirmation
Student Handbook Highlights
During data confirmation, you will be asked to acknowledge receiving a digital link to the Madison Student Handbook (English & Spanish). While there is a lot of information there, we would like to highlight three important sections: dress code, phone policy, and the tardy policy.
As you shop for back-to-school clothes, please ensure your students have appropriate school attire.
Middle school is a phone free environment to help students stay focused on academics and give them the freedom to socialize in person and in the moment. All phones and smart watches must be off and in backpacks. During the second week of school, we will be distributing Yondr pouches for student use, which is an expectation for those bringing devices.
School Hours: Monday: 10am - 3:35pm and Tuesday - Friday 9am - 3:35pm. Thank you for your efforts getting your students to school on time, and thank you for encouraging your students to be on time to all classes. Click HERE for our bell schedule.

Bikes & Skateboards
All students riding a bike (e-bike or pedal powered), a scooter, or a skateboard are required to complete an online safety training course or attend an in-person bike education class in order to ride to school. After completion of this course, a permit sticker will be sent to the campus where they will be able to pick it up. Read page 45 in our student handbook for more details. Click HERE for the Spanish version of the handbook.
Please plan to attend our on campus course on Wednesday, September 3 from 4pm to 5:30pm in the library. No need to sign up -- just show up! Or please click HERE for information about online courses that will take place on August 23, September 27, and October 25.
