CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Dear Coyote Families,
We had a fantastic start to the school year! Thank you to all of your hard work preparing your children for a smooth start! We appreciate your partnership.
Canyon View C.A.R.E.S.
At Canyon View, we strive to create a warm and caring community for everyone, so it makes sense that our school rules acronym is Canyon View C.A.R.E.S. This stands for: Coyotes Act Responsibly, Respect Others, Exhibit Kindness, and Show Safety. During the first few weeks of school, we review the rules and procedures throughout campus in detail by watching slideshows in our classroom. Students also come to an assembly where we talk about behavior expectations on campus. I am proud to report that our students have been working hard to follow the rules and procedures they are learning.
We look forward to our first full week of school this week!
Let's Make it a GREAT week!
Warmly,
Erica Edmonston
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

Parkinglot Reminders
- Please do not park along Adolphia Street between Black Mountain and the school entrance. Parking in that location pushes out the line of stopped cars waiting to get into the school, and blocks the only traffic lane, which then causes the stopped cars to back up all the way out onto Black Mountain Road. It is very dangerous!
- No curb parking along the perimeter of the lot.
- If you are driving to pick-up, use our pick-up lane. Meeting up in alternate areas in or around the parking lot is a safety hazard and is not permitted.
Green Cone Zone:
The Green Cone Zone is located on the east side of the parking lot. This area is reserved for loading/unloading of students in our preschool and Special Day Classes who require additional assistance ONLY (Ms. Marty, Ms. Morrison, Mrs. Ruble, and Ms. Dobson's classes). This is not a parking area for TK.

Volunteer Information
Based on feedback from families and staff, the district is working on improvements to make the volunteer process more efficient and user-friendly.
While our new system is being finalized, we are still welcoming volunteers. For now, anyone interested in helping on campus can do so as a visitor until our updated process launches, tentatively scheduled for mid-September.
We encourage you to take this time to complete your TB assessment so you’ll be ready when the updated system is in place. We will share more details as we get closer to launch. You can learn more about this process by visiting our website.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Our volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of our students.
Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Under California’s Universal Meals Program, all PUSD students continue to receive school breakfast and lunch meals at no cost. The Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals, however, is still very important for meal reimbursement purposes and for LCFF funding. Because income eligibility guidelines change annually, families must reapply every year. Please encourage households to apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or to complete a paper application. Students that meet income criteria for free or reduced-price meal eligibility may qualify for additional benefits, such as discounts on after-school care, AP testing fees, transportation, home internet, and some utilities. Families with questions about the meal application should call PUSD Food and Nutrition at 858-668-2570.

Meet our Team CV Board Members
Introducing our Team CV Board Members! Team CV consists of the Canyon View Foundation and PTO. Team CV is 100% volunteer run and provides all of our social and fundraising events. What's the difference between the Foundation and the PTO? The Canyon View Elementary Foundation is dedicated to fundraising for Canyon View to provide our children with the best education possible. The Foundation organizes the school's fundraisers such as Red Envelope, Gift Cards, Jog-A-Thon, Coyote Gear, Silent Auction, and E-Waste Recycling. These fundraisers support programs such as Science, Music, Art, PE, IMPACT Reading, STEAM Enhancements, Technology & Software Licensing, Health, and Safety which are not currently funded by state or federal budgets. The Canyon View PTO strives to positively impact the lives of children and families through fun family events, like the Pancake Breakfast, Ice Cream Social, Family Game Nights, Spring Dance and Coyote Round-Up, as well as provide educationally enriching programs like Red Ribbon Week and the Science Fair which are funded by PTO Membership Dues and Sponsorships. Because both groups share the ultimate goal to provide a memorable and enriching experience for our children, the two organizations work hand in hand to ensure we are meeting the needs of our school community. These board members ensure all of the gears are turning behind the scenes, but we know we could not do this without your support. We'd love for you to stop us when you see us and introduce yourselves!

The Pigeon HAS to Go to School, written and illustrated by Mo Willems
From the creative mind of best-selling author/illustrator Mo Willems, comes another hilarious story about the beloved and wily Pigeon. The Pigeon is about to get schooled, yet he still has so many questions: Why does the Pigeon have to go to school? He already knows everything! And what if he doesn’t like it? What if the teacher doesn’t like him? What if he learns TOO MUCH!?! Fun for all ages, this book is perfect for exploring the humorous side of back-to-school jitters.
The Crayons Go Back to School, written by Drew Daywalt, illustrated by Oliver Jeffers
This charming story explores the different aspects of what the new school year can bring, through the “eyes” of an enthusiastic box of crayons. Each one has a favorite subject, and a shared love of art class! Readers young and old will appreciate the adorable illustrations and optimistic take on approaching a new school year with a colorful and positive attitude.
School’s First Day of School, written by Adam Rex, illustrated by Christian Robinson
A classic story, suitable for revisiting year after year! This book explores the anxieties and fears kids might face when they first start school, with a clever twist: It's the school itself that's brand new and worried about the first day. This school has feelings kids will recognize and relate to, and the book provides realistic but reassuring information about what they might expect. Robinson pictures a warm, diverse environment that includes a girl in a wheelchair playing with a friend on the playground. This sweet, funny book is an absolute perfect choice for kids about to venture off to school.
