Dear Academy families and friends,

Welcome to December!!! They say "time flies when you're having fun!" Well we must be having a lot of fun because the term ends this Friday, marking the end of the first trimester. It feels like this year is moving faster than other years with all the school events and extracurriculars we've been hosting. All the more reason for these weekly announcements and posts to our social media sites to keep families well-informed.

In the week ahead, we have several events to discuss. On Thursday, our 5th graders will be taking the Panorama survey, a survey designed to help us gauge our school climate. This data is helpful as it show the school staff just how effective our social-emotional learning platform is and where we need to improve/support our students.

We also have our 5th graders working with high school students from WPS and Thayer called S.A.L.S.A. (Students Advocating for Lifestyles without Substance Abuse) this Friday. They are having a special assembly with these amazing high school seniors to discuss the importance of making good life choices and saying no to substance abuse.

We also have the return of Book Bingo on Thursday, December 7, 2023. This is a family friendly event where kids and parents play bingo in the cafeteria. Winners get to pick from a wide range of books...and everyone wins! Please join us from 6:15-7:15 in the cafeteria as when kids read, everyone wins!!!

Last but certainly not least, the Coats for Kids drive is going on now through December 18...please donate all that you can. We take adult and children sizes. Our goal is 150 jackets to help those in need!!!

Updates

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires all public school districts to periodically evaluate special education programs and services provided within the district. The Weymouth Public Schools has contracted with ACCEPT Education Collaborative to evaluate inclusive special education services provided to students in grades PreK through Grade 5. Parent/caregiver feedback is a valuable part of this program evaluation. An online parent/caregiver survey will be shared with families whose children recieve inclusive special education next week. We look forward to your feedback and thank you for your participation in this process.
