Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Engages in Collaborative Dialogue with Dr. Andrea Pastchal-Smith

Aberdeen, MS – November 7, 2025 – The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) met with Dr. Andrea Pastchal-Smith, Superintendent of the Aberdeen School District, for an inspiring session focused on student voice, collaboration, and a shared vision for continuous district improvement.

Building Purpose and Student Leadership

Dr. Pastchal-Smith opened the meeting by calling the session to order and reminding students of the SSAC’s purpose—to serve as a bridge between students and district leadership, providing valuable insight to help shape school experiences. Students were encouraged to take ownership of their roles as leaders and problem-solvers within their schools.

“Tell Me What You Love” – Celebrating Student Perspectives

The council participated in a lively “Tell Me What You Love” activity designed to celebrate individuality and strengthen community bonds. Students shared their favorite classes, sports, artists, family recipes, and dream travel destinations, giving members an opportunity to connect through shared interests and diverse experiences. The activity created an atmosphere of openness and unity across schools.

Tackling Challenges and Brainstorming Solutions

Council members engaged in meaningful discussions about the most challenging issues facing students today and proposed creative, thoughtful solutions. From improving communication and increasing student involvement to enhancing academic and extracurricular opportunities, participants demonstrated leadership, maturity, and a strong commitment to positive change.

Students also provided advice and feedback on district initiatives, offering valuable perspectives on how to make school life more engaging, inclusive, and supportive for all learners.

Leadership, Service, and School Spirit

The council discussed electing SSAC Officers—President, Vice President, and Secretary—who will represent the advisory group in future meetings. Plans were also introduced for a community service project, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the community.

To further promote open dialogue, students suggested placing SSAC suggestion boxes in schools to collect peer input throughout the year. In a fun and unifying moment, members submitted their T-shirt sizes to create a sense of shared identity and school pride. The group also discussed plans for the next meeting and an exciting end-of-year field trip.

A Culture of Listening and Leadership

Dr. Pastchal-Smith closed the meeting by thanking students for their honesty, enthusiasm, and dedication to improving their schools.

“Your voices matter,” she emphasized. “Together, we are shaping the future of the Aberdeen School District.”

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) continues to serve as a powerful platform for student engagement, leadership development, and collaboration between district administration and the student body. Through open dialogue and collective problem-solving, SSAC members are helping to build a stronger, more connected Aberdeen School District community.

✈️💙 AviNation American Dream Tour Lands at Aberdeen High School! 💙✈️

On Tuesday, November 4, the AviNation American Dream Tour made a stop at Aberdeen High School for an inspiring, all-day event, the first of its kind in the state of Mississippi!

This incredible experience gave students front-row seats to speak directly with professionals in aviation and aerospace, learning about education and career opportunities in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries.

Commercial pilots, drone pilots, engineers, and aviation experts shared insights, career paths, and hands-on demonstrations, sparking excitement about the possibilities that lie ahead for our students.

The event aligns perfectly with the Aberdeen High School Flight Academy, which allows students to graduate with either their aircraft mechanic hours or pilot hours, preparing them for real-world success right here at home.

We’re proud to lead the way in aviation education and to give our students opportunities that truly let their dreams take flight! 💙🐾
