Explorer Wednesday Briefing
September 23, 2026
Message from the Principal
Dear Explorer Families,
Every day at Chloe Clark, our students are learning that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. A friendly hello, an invitation to play, or a helping hand can turn someone’s whole day around. Our Explorer Pledge reminds us to care for one another, and I love seeing our students put that promise into action. Kindness matters online, too. As you spend time with your child this week, consider a quick conversation about technology safety: ask before clicking or sharing, keep personal information private, and tell a trusted adult if something on a screen feels confusing or uncomfortable. One helpful question to practice together is, “Would I say this to someone face to face?” Our young Explorers are still learning, and these little conversations help them build good habits.
And for a bit of weekend fun: Saturday, September 26, is National Pancake Day! If pancakes are on your menu, ask your Explorer: What’s your favorite kind? I’m curious whether classic syrup, blueberries, or chocolate chips will win the family vote. ( My favorite are blueberry pancakes).
Thank you for helping our Explorers grow into thoughtful, kind people—one choice, one conversation, and perhaps one pancake at a time.
Warmly,
Loretta Duncan
Principal, Chloe Clark Elementary
Instructional Materials Committee Opportunity
The Instructional Materials Committee (IMC) is responsible for guiding the curriculum review and adoption process and makes recommendations to the superintendent and school board regarding instructional materials and course modification and approval. The committee also reviews course design and core instructional materials to ensure their ongoing alignment with state law, teaching and learning standards, and research-based best practices. The Steilacoom Historical School District currently has two openings for community representatives on the Instructional Materials Committee. Community representatives are appointed by the Superintendent or designee and serve a three year term. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, September 25, 2026.
