Dual Language Program Coming to Kindergarten at Nob Hill
I am excited to share that Nob Hill Elementary will begin a Dual Language program starting next school year in Kindergarten. This program will grow each year as those students move up to the next grade level, eventually creating a full dual language pathway for our students.
What is Dual Language?
Dual language is a form of education where students learn literacy and academic content in two languages. In the Yakima School District, the two languages will be English and Spanish. Students in the program will be primarily immersed in Spanish beginning in PreK/Kindergarten. Starting in 3rd grade, instruction will be balanced so that approximately half of learning occurs in Spanish and half in English.
Research shows that dual language programs offer many benefits for students:
-
They go beyond traditional transitional bilingual or English-only programs.
-
They help reduce the academic impact of poverty for English learners.
-
They are the only programs that consistently close the achievement gap between English learners and native English speakers.
-
They raise academic achievement and test scores for all participating students, while helping students become bilingual and biliterate.
We are excited to bring this opportunity to Nob Hill and to provide students with the benefits of learning in two languages while building strong academic skills.
More information about the program and enrollment will be shared with families soon. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the school office.
Thank you for your continued support of Nob Hill Elementary.
Spring Conferences
Spring conferences are coming up soon, and we are excited for the opportunity to connect with you about your child’s progress. As always, our goal is 100% family participation, because we believe that strong partnerships between school and home are key to student success.
Conference Dates:
📅 March 30 – April 3
During this time, you will have the chance to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss academic progress, strengths, and areas where we can continue to support their growth.
Please watch for messages from your child’s teacher with information on how to sign up for a conference time. We encourage you to sign up as soon as possible so we can ensure a time that works best for your schedule.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to meeting with each of you and celebrating the great work our students are doing.
Upcoming “Be Alert” Student Safety Assembly
Nob Hill Elementary and the Yakima School District are excited to welcome Russ Tuttle for a special “Be Alert” student safety assembly. The Be Alert program focuses on helping students learn how to stay aware of their surroundings and make safe choices in everyday situations. Through engaging stories and age-appropriate activities, students will learn simple strategies to help them recognize potentially unsafe situations and respond in a safe and responsible way. The presentation encourages students to: Be aware of their surroundings Trust their instincts Make safe and responsible choices Know when and how to seek help from trusted adults Our goal is to provide students with practical tools that help them feel confident and safe both at school and in their community. The message is positive, empowering, and appropriate for elementary students. We are excited to bring this important learning opportunity to our students and appreciate your continued partnership in supporting student safety.
Thanks to Our PTA & Upcoming Events!
We would like to extend a big thank you to our PTA for organizing another fun and successful Nob Hill Bowling Night! Events like this give our students and families a chance to connect, laugh, and spend time together outside of the school day. It was great to see so many members of our Nob Hill community come out and enjoy the evening.
Our PTA works hard to create opportunities like this for our students and families, and we are incredibly grateful for their time, energy, and dedication.
Our next PTA event will be “The Reptile Man” on March 19. We are excited to bring this engaging and educational experience to our students and families!
If you are interested in helping continue to build our Nob Hill community and support future events, we would love to have you involved. Please feel free to reach out to learn more about how you can help.
Thank you again to our PTA and to all the families who joined us for a great night!
Reminder About Pick-Up and Parking Safety
Please help us keep all students safe during pick-up and drop-off. No cars should park in any areas marked in red on the map. These areas are restricted to ensure students do not cross the street without using a designated crosswalk. We want all staff, students, and families to use crosswalks to stay safe.
Additionally, the employee parking lot on 32nd Ave is not a pick-up location. This lot is reserved for staff and two of our buses, so we need to keep it clear.
Thank you for being respectful to our staff and other families during this busy time of day, for helping us keep dismissal efficient and safe for all Nob Hill students and families, and for encouraging everyone to use crosswalks!
If you have any questions, please reach out to the office.
