Dear Parents and Guardians,
Here is a quick rundown of our week:
Ms. Schmitz & Ms.Terharr:
Social Studies: We have been learning about local, state, national, and tribal governments. We're having great discussions about laws that we want to create to make our world better. Next week we'll start talking about campaigning for a government office, and what it takes to run for government!
Math: We are getting back into our regular math routine after MCAs. Students are enjoying trying a new math strategy where they work together to solve problems on vertical whiteboards. We are mastering multiplication with larger numbers, and are ready for the next challenge.
Literacy: This week we read a book about Sonia Sotomayor and talked about how she made positive changes and achieved her dream of becoming a Supreme Court Justice. We have also been working on opinion writing and had a lively discussion about whether or not kids should have homework! We are continuing small group work and individual reading conferences, as well as making progress with our UFLI curriculum.
Upcoming events: May 8th- Field trip to Stages.
May 13-Field trip to Richardson Nature Center.
Mrs. Leafman and Mr. White
Here is a look into our week.
Literacy: Since our students have been working so hard to complete the MCAs they have had a week of practicing fluency, EPIC, and typing club. We have continued in our reading group rotations and UFLI spelling.
- Math: We have begun reviewing standards that we have learned early in the year, starting with measuring with inches.
- Science: We learned about how honeybees make honey and poisonous mushrooms.
Warm regards,
Ashley Leafman
