September is Attendance Awareness Month!
At Liberty, we've worked hard to build the expectation in our community that daily attendance matters. Starting strong at the beginning of the year makes a big difference for the whole school year. Research shows that students who miss just 1–2 days in the first month are much more likely to become chronically absent later on.
Daily attendance is important because when students come to school every day they:
build routines that help them feel confident
stay connected with friends and teachers
have the best chance to succeed academically and socially
Most importantly, our Liberty staff want you to know that we are here for you. If your child faces challenges getting to school, please reach out. Together, we can find solutions—because showing up today builds a stronger tomorrow.
Golden Leopard Award
Our Golden Leopard Award is used to recognize a Liberty staff member who has shown outstanding dedication, commitment and care for others. This is your opportunity to let them know that you, as a member of our school community, value the impact of their hard work and their positive attitude. Please use this form for your nomination.
Each month, Dr. Belair will collect the names of all staff who have been nominated during the month, and enter them into a random drawing. The name drawn will receive a Golden Leopard certificate and will be given the Golden Leopard statue to display in their classroom or workspace. This month, all nominations are due by Friday, September 18th. August’s Golden Leopard Award was given to our Kitchen Manager, Balinda Cole. Mrs. Cole was recognized for her kindness and grace towards kids.
Ready for Reading Volunteers
Liberty Elementary is looking for volunteers to help build reading skills with kindergarten students. If you have 30 minutes a week to spare, our kindergarten students would love to welcome you here at Liberty! If you happen to know of any other adults who may be interested in this volunteer opportunity, please share this request with them. See the flyer below for more information and click HERE to register. Following registration, our program coordinator will reach out with additional information.

Worthington Kilbourne High School is seeking a small crew of elementary school actors in 4th & 5th grades to join them for the production of Meet Me in St. Louis. This classical musical will require several young people - specifically a younger girl to play the role of Tootie, the youngest sibling of the main family. Portrait of a Learner Survey - September 7th - 18th
Dear Liberty Families,
As we begin the new school year, we will be implementing our Portrait of a Learner Survey September 7th - September 18th. This tool helps us understand and measure the durable skills our community values most, skills students carry with them throughout their time in Worthington and beyond.
Why the Portrait of a Learner Survey?
Designed in-house to directly serve our district's goals, this survey provides the flexibility, control, and alignment to support our students effectively. Specifically, the survey is designed to:
Align Directly to the Portrait of a Learner: Highlighting the specific skills and mindsets our community wants students to develop.
Support Executive Function Skills: Connecting directly to key habits like response inhibition, flexibility, task initiation, emotional control, sustained attention, and organization.
Provide Actionable Insights: Giving teachers, principals, and staff real-time data to support students’ growth in these critical areas.
What We’re Doing:
The survey is age-appropriate, tiered by grade level, and preceded by a short preparatory lesson to help support students and is administered via Google Forms, with results connected to the district’s Monitoring Score system. Our goal is to use the Portrait of a Learner Survey to build a clear picture of student growth, and identify areas where additional support is needed.
If you have any questions or would like to opt your student out of this spring window, please contact us at 614-450-5200.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us grow alongside our students.
Respectfully,
Dr. Craig Belair
