Highland Families,
Spring is a busy and fun place around Highland. Here are a few things for you to know:
Our third, fourth and fifth graders are working diligently during this state testing season. We are proud of their hard work. Remember that being here every day helps them do their best in showing what they know!
Working together, we met the goal for our recent ASB fundraiser. Thank you for your generous support that allows us to continue to provide a rich experience for students at Highland!
Stay tuned for a special way you as families can help acknowledge a few Highland staff members who are retiring this year or moving on to new opportunities. We have a great line up of talented folks for ‘26-27 that is coming together!
Have you heard? This summer Highland is becoming a mini construction zone! The Highland office will be revamped to provide greater security and also a refreshed look and layout. Two of our Special Education classrooms will be updated and we will be adding a brand new standalone restroom to meet the unique needs of students with mobility issues. This is all thanks to the recent Bond which our community supported. We are excited and thankful!
I will see many of you in the coming weeks for the special end of year events and milestones.
Can’t wait!
Mr. H
Office Reminder
Moving?
If you are moving or anticipate moving this spring or over the summer, please email kim_askevold@lkstevens.wednet.edu. This helps us with class placement planning for next year, keeps our records updated and ensures mailings are sent to the correct address.
Attendance Email & Transportation Changes
When reporting an absence for your child, please call the main office at 425-335-1585 or email our attendance office at hlattendance@lkstevens.wednet.edu.
Please also use this phone number and email address for parent pick-up or bus changes. All end of day changes must go through the office. We understand that last-minute changes may come up, but ask that you notify the office one hour before the end of the school day whenever possible.
Highland Student Dress Code
As the weather gets warmer, we wanted to send a friendly reminder about the Highland Student Dress Code, which is outlined in the Highland Student and Family Handbook. Please see the attached handbook page for additional information and guidelines.
Please help your child come to school dressed appropriately for the learning environment and weather forecast.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership!
Kindergarten Registration
2026–27 Kindergarten Registration Has Begun!
Registration packets can be found on the district website, at the district office, or at the Highland office. Children must be 5 years old by August 31 to enroll in kindergarten for the 2026–27 school year.
We can’t wait to register some of our littlest Hornets!
What's Buzzing Around Highland
Kindergarten
Last week the Kindergarteners put on a show and found the missing music! They have worked so hard and it showed! We are so proud of them and we appreciate all of Mrs. Broadbent’s work!
1st Grade
First graders WOWed their families and friends with a rainforest-themed production that aligned with what they learn in CKLA this year.
The students were so prepared ahead of time that they were able to add another song to the program! Way to go, first graders!
2nd Grade
Second graders got to go on a field trip to Imagine Children’s Museum and had a great time! We just finished learning about the human body and learned our small intestine is the length of 5 second graders! We also finished up a unit in math on measurement and will be moving onto our final unit of Shapes and Arrays. In literacy we are taking a closer look at the War of 1812 and becoming great historians. We are ready for 3rd grade!!
3rd Grade
The 3rd graders have spent the past month prepping for the SBA test. We have done various interims, practiced the test tools, and practiced creating tools that can help during the test. They are ready to show what they know! Along with this, we have been studying fractions, measurements, and geometry. We spent some time reading about Ecology and studying ecosystems.
SBA Testing Season is Here!
SBA Testing Season is Here!
Our students will soon begin the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA). Below is the testing schedule:
April 27–29: 5th Grade Science
May 11–15: 3rd–5th Grade English Language Arts
May 18–21: 3rd–5th Grade Math
Students will need wired headphones for testing. Wired earbuds will be available at school if needed.
These assessments provide valuable information about student progress and help guide instruction, while also highlighting strengths and areas for growth.
Testing takes place in the morning. Families can support student success by ensuring children arrive on time, get a good night’s sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast.
We look forward to seeing our students show what they’ve learned!
Running Club
