Prayer

Dear Lord,

Please help those who are less fortunate than us,

help them to find comfort and love.

Also help us to remember how truly lucky we are,

help us not to take this for granted.

Amen

Welcome to Term 3! I hope all of our families enjoyed a relaxing holiday break. It has been wonderful to welcome our students back this week, and I know Term 3 will be another busy and exciting term filled with great learning opportunities.

A warm welcome to Isabelle Faulkner, who joins the Queenies team this term as our Junior Intervention and Year 1 & 2 General Education Assistant. We're delighted to have Isabelle as part of our school community and know she will make a wonderful contribution to the learning and wellbeing of our students.

This Friday, 24 July, we'll be holding our Community Garden Busy Bee from 3.00pm to 5.00pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and lend a hand as we continue developing this fantastic space for our students and community. We'll finish the afternoon with pizzas at 5.00pm, and we'd love to see as many families there as possible.

This week, Catholic Education Western Australia released its new Parent Code of Conduct. The Code outlines the shared expectations that help foster respectful and positive partnerships between families and schools. Further information has been shared via email.

I'll be attending the Catholic Primary Principals' Association Conference on Thursday and Friday this week. During my absence, Mrs Jennifer Anderson will be Acting Principal.

Finally, a reminder that our next P&F Meeting will be held on Monday 27 July at 6.00pm in the staffroom. Whether you're a regular attendee or joining us for the first time, we'd love to see you there.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of Queen of Apostles. I look forward to another wonderful term working in partnership with our students, staff and families.

Green lights!

Jesse Yock

Principal

New CEWA Parent and Carer Code of Conduct

Earlier this week, all families received an email introducing Catholic Education Western Australia's new Parent and Carer Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct reflects the strong partnership between home and school and recognises parents and carers as the first educators of their children. It outlines our shared commitment to creating safe, welcoming and respectful school communities where every child can flourish. The Code is grounded in the Gospel values of respect, honesty, kindness and inclusiveness and reinforces the importance of positive relationships, open communication and working together in the best interests of our students.

If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to take a few moments to read the Code. Thank you for your continued support and for the positive partnership we share in educating and nurturing the children of Queen of Apostles.

Volunteers Volunteers

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.

Catholic Performing Arts Festival 2026

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you had a fantastic break.

Term 3 is a very busy time for the Art Department. The Catholic Performing Arts Festival commences this term, and I would like to wish our entries all the best as they participate in this wonderful festival. I have included a schedule below outlining dates for students who have entered. Please remember, it is the parent’s responsibility to transport their child to their Instrumental or Vocal Performance. Students are required to be there at least 15 minutes before their session. Each student is to prepare a brief introduction before their item including their name, school name, year level and name of their piece of music. Please encourage your child to practice this beforehand.

All parents / guardians must purchase a ticket to attend the performance. Please note, tickets will not be sold at the door.

Tickets for the Performing Arts Festival are available to purchase from 8am this FRIDAY 3RD JULY. All ticketing links can be found via the Spirit of the Arts website https://www.spiritofthearts.com.au/performing-arts-festival/, under each festival section. Further information is included in the notes handed out at the end of last term.

Kind regards

Sheryl Perry

Library News Library News

Welcome to an exciting Term 3 in the library. Book borrowing will commence for the children next week. Thank you to the wonderful parents that have helped cover many library books so far this year. We have a stack of new books ready to go on the shelves!

QUEENIES BOOK WEEK

Our annual book character dress up parade will be held in the church hall on Monday 17th August at 8.50am. Students are welcome to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and bring along a photocopy or the book they are taking inspiration from; we may even have the book in the library.

Following the parade, the children will be attending presentations from Perth based author/illustrator Frane Lessac.

Please note the official Australia wide Book Week is from the 22nd – 28th August. There will be many community events celebrating Book Week. Check your local library and bookshops for activities.

WAYRBA

During term 2 the children have been reading and borrowing books nominated by the West Australian Young Readers Book Association. Once read, they are encouraged to give the book a rating. The results are sent through to the Association and the most popular book in each category will be announced as the winner in November. Along with the continued promotion of these books, the children will be asked to nominate their favorite book for next year’s shortlist.

LIBRARY OPEN

A reminder to parents; you are very welcome to the library on Wednesday and Thursday mornings 8.20-8.50am to read with your child or come along to browse books available for borrowing from the parent section of the library.

BOOKFAIR

Our library will turn into Queenies’ very own bookshop on school open night, Wednesday 22nd September, for our annual Scholastics book fair. Funds raised from this event come straight back to our school by way of vouchers, used to purchase new books for the students. Your support is very much appreciated.

Flumist: influenza nasal spray vaccination

For the first time, children aged 2 to 17 years are eligible to receive the influenza vaccine as a nasal spray instead of a needle. This age group is prioritised because they are at high risk of influenza complications and can readily spread influenza to others. No needles are used.

The vaccine contains tiny amounts of weakened influenza viruses that can’t make you sick. They simply train your body to recognise and fight influenza.

The spray is absorbed quickly in the nose and will work even if people sneeze afterwards.

Children can get vaccinated with FluMist nasal spray at:

  • GPs
  • Pharmacies
  • Community Health Services
  • Aboriginal Health Services

Nasal spray vaccine is not suitable for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. Needle – based influenza vaccines remain available for children who are not eligible for the nasal spray influenza vaccine or when the nasal spray influenza vaccine is not suitable.
