Message from Ms. Lahey Message from Ms. Lahey

Greetings Hembree Families,

What a Week!

It’s hard to believe how quickly this week has flown by—and that it’s already May! As we approach the end of the school year, we remain committed to finishing strong. Thank you for your continued partnership in making this final month a successful one for all our students.

This week, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 completed the ELA portion of the Georgia Milestones assessment. We appreciate your efforts in ensuring your child arrived on time and well-rested. Testing will resume and conclude next week, and we ask for your continued support in helping make this process smooth and stress-free.

A big thank you to our amazing PTA for treating our teachers to a Chick-fil-A lunch today! It was a much-needed and greatly appreciated gesture after a busy week of testing.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to celebrate the end of the school year with our annual picnic, hosted by the PTA. Join us at Hembree Park on Friday, May 9th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. We’d love to see you there as we wrap up a fantastic year together!

Our teachers and students have worked diligently all year to prepare, and I know they are ready to shine. To help make the testing days successful, we ask parents to:

  • Ensure your child gets a good night's sleep.
  • Make sure your child arrives at school early enough to avoid feeling rushed.
  • Provide a healthy breakfast or ensure they have enough time to eat at school.
  • Encourage your child to do their best.

Thank you for partnering with us to make the testing successful.

Testing Schedule for Grades 3-5:

  • Tuesday, May 6th: Math Part 1
  • Wednesday, May 7th: Math Part 2
  • Thursday, May 8th: Science Parts 1 and 2 (5th Grade Only)

The PTA is still looking to fill two positions on the board. We are in need of a communications chair and a business partners liaison. If you have been looking to get involved, this is a wonderful opportunity.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Best Regards,

Nancy Lahey

Principal

We hope they have a great testing and show off those brilliant minds of theirs. You will do great, and we are proud of you!

Clinic News Clinic News

Dear Parents,

As the school year winds down, we request that you plan to pick up any medication or supplies your child may have in the school clinic. All medications (prescription and over-the-counter), must be picked up by May 23th. Any medications not picked up by May 23th will be discarded as we cannot keep medications over the summer.

In the event your child requires medications for next school year, please remember to fill out a Medication Authorization Form. Provide the Medication Authorization Form and medication to the school clinic when school begins in August.

Please Note: All prescription medications MUST have a Doctor’s signature in order for the clinic staff to administer the medication. All medications MUST be in an original labeled container with a current expiration date.

Please notify the clinic if your child is planning to attend summer school and will require medication or has healthcare needs such as diabetes, asthma, seizures, allergies. Medication forms and/or health care plans are required during summer school.

Thank you.

Counselor's Corner Counselor's Corner

1. End-of-Year Stress & Transitions

May can bring excitement and anxiety. Help your child manage stress by:

  • Keeping routines consistent
  • Talking about feelings openly
  • Encouraging healthy sleep, eating, and physical activity

2. Celebrate Growth

Take time to reflect on your child’s progress this year.

Ask them:

  • What are you most proud of?
  • What was something hard that you overcame?
  • What goals do you have for next year?

3. Prepare for Summer Structure

Start planning now for a healthy balance of fun, rest, and learning:

  • Look into camps, library programs, or community events
  • Encourage regular reading and screen-time limits
  • Maintain some daily routines (wake-up/bedtime)

4. Social Connections

Summer can feel lonely without school friends. Help your child stay connected:

  • Arrange playdates or group outings
  • Teach and model social skills like including others and resolving conflicts

5. Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Talk with your child about mental wellness:

  • It’s okay to ask for help
  • Everyone has big feelings sometimes
  • Listening and being kind matters

6. Final Reminders

  • Return all school materials (books, devices)
  • Check the lost and found
  • Communicate with your teacher/counselor if you have any final concerns

Fill Out Our LAST Survey! Fill Out Our LAST Survey!

HELP!! Our PTA School Of Excellence designation rides on parents' feedback. We need YOU to tell us how we are doing as a PTA and a school. This is the last survey we'll ask you to do this school year.

A "School of Excellence" designation, often awarded by organizations like the National PTA, is significant because it signifies a school's commitment to improving student outcomes, fostering strong partnerships between the school, parents and the community, and driving positive, long-term change. It essentially highlights schools that are actively working to create a richer, more engaging and supportive learning environment for all students. We are proud to have this distinction at Hembree Springs and want to keep it going!

Can you take 5 minutes to answer the questions linked below? We have just 16 surveys filled out in English and none in Spanish.

Thank you!

Thanks for Volunteering! Thanks for Volunteering!

In honor of National Volunteer Week (April 20-26) last week, the PTA wants to personally thank everyone who has volunteered this year at Hembree Springs.

It's with your help that our PTA is able to put on wonderful events like our Back to School Picnic, Trunk or Treat, Family Dance and Silent Auction and End of the Year Picnic.

As the school year winds down, we will regrettably bid a farewell to PTA board members who have made a big difference in the lives of our kids with their service! PTA President Sara Fuchs is stepping down as her youngest son moves on to middle school. Cathy Sparks, our parliamentarian on the board and past president, also has her youngest son moving on to middle school. We are so thankful for Co-President Beth Orero, our Secretary Sarah Wells, VP of Student and Academic Support Melicie Moreau and VP of Volunteers Stacey Dennis.

We are happy to be keeping our Treasurer Cait Santinelli and VP of Teacher and Staff Support Kate Humboldt, while Lauren LaFleur is moving into the role of Student and Academic Support.

As volunteers, many of you have also helped make copies in the teacher workroom, signed up for a slot on a variety of Signup Geniuses we put out throughout the year and helped as room parents (shoutout to Meredith Herndon, our amazing room parent coordinator!) and with class party opportunities.

You're a big part of what makes Hembree Springs Elementary a wonderful place. Thanks for your commitment!

Beanstack Reading App Beanstack Reading App

zoom_out_map

Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
