Return to school in-person Monday, January 12, 2026
We look forward to welcoming everyone back!
Minneapolis Public Schools will welcome students back for in-person learning at all schools on Monday, January 12, 2026.
An optional online learning opportunity will also be available for families through February 12, 2026.
Please see your MPS caregiver email for more information or check the news section on the Anthony website: https://tinyurl.com/Jan9MPSUpdate
Please note that if you select the optional online learning opportunity, the form to opt in is due Sunday, January 11 by 12noon. See the email from the district linked above for more information.
A few things to know:
- Online learning is only temporary through February 12, 2026.
- Temporary online learning will be synchronous with in-person learning. Students are expected to log onto each of their Google Classrooms during the regularly scheduled time and join in virtually
- Students are required to complete the necessary work assigned online.
- Attendance is taken every class period, including Advisory.
- The learning opportunity may not be the same. For instance, if there is a lab, the student may need to complete an alternative assignment.
- We encourage all students to be in person as resources are limited online.
If you have questions, please reach out to your child's Advisory teacher, the main office, or the Anthony administration.
Anthony Middle School History Day
Please mark your calendar on February 12, 2026 as Anthony Middle School History Day in the school media center. Our seventh-grade students will present their work to the history day judges. Our students' projects fall into one of the following categories: exhibit board, paper, documentary, performance or website.
The 2026 theme is: "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History." Students are working full time on their projects in their United States studies class taught by Mr. Aicken, Mr. Olson or Ms. Ricks. Please encourage your students to go to their local library and/or attend a research open house (Hullabaloos) sponsored by the Minnesota Historical Society at local and metro area public libraries. Please see the website for the scheduled Hullabaloos: https://www.mnhs.org/historyday/research/hullabaloos . The key to an excellent history day project is a wide variety of academic primary and secondary sources covering/reflecting the pros and cons of the students' topics.
This is an exciting event. Please plan to attend and judge one or more projects.
Vision Screening January 28, 2026
Phillips Eye Institute’s Early Youth Eyecare (E.Y.E.) Community Initiative will be screening all 7th grader’s vision on January 28th.
Please make sure your student brings their glasses every day, and especially January 28th!
If a student fails their vision screening families will be notified. They offer free exams and glasses if needed.
If you do not want your 7th graders vision screened, please notify the health office by emailing robyn.hansen@mpls.k12.mn.us.
MPS Caregivers Survey
We need your feedback!
Thanks to everyone who completed the Caregiver Priorities Survey last spring (7,139 responses district-wide).
Examples of how feedback was used:
Class size was one of the number one priorities, so MPS allocated funding to prevent splits in grades K - 2 (Note: A “split” is when a teacher serves students from multiple grades in one class).
Community Ed utilized the data to submit a grant application based on caregiver priorities for programming.
MPS will continue to provide a variety of engagement opportunities.
Surveys allow us to hear from a large volume of caregivers.
Focus groups, interviews, etc. are critical to ensure we are hearing multiple perspectives.
Take our 2nd Caregivers Survey
Minneapolis Public Schools is seeking additional feedback regarding core academics and beyond the core such as opportunities, extracurriculars, and social emotional learning to help us further transform learning for all students.
🚩🚩🚩 Please take a moment to provide us with your feedback by completing the MPS Caregiver Survey: https://tinyurl.com/MPSTransform
Ensuring the Core
- What specific opportunities and experiences (curriculum, programs, etc) within their core academics have been most helpful or important to your child?
- What challenges or barriers have your child or your family encountered that are impacting your child’s academic success?
Beyond the Core
- What specific opportunities and experiences (curriculum, programs, etc) outside of your student’s core academics have been most helpful or important to your child?
- What challenges or barriers outside of your student’s core academics are impacting their success?

Attendance: How To
Parents and Guardians, we encourage you to report an absence of any kind using the Anthony Attendance Form. This form helps us keep quick and accurate records of your student's absences as reported by a legal guardian. You may also continue to send written notes with your student if you prefer that method. We strive to have documentation for each absence whenever possible.
Once you have filled out the form or written a note, tell your student to come to the Main Office and we will issue a green pass. This process: builds independence, reduces classroom disruptions, and ensures your student is ready for pick up in a timely manner. A parent will not have to come into the school to sign the student out if they have a leave early pass.
For more on the full attendance policy, including excused✅ versus unexcused❌ absence categories, see our Anthony Handbook.
You may reach out to Julie.Robertson@mpls.k12.mn.us, Office Assistant, for more details 612-668-3240. Website Contact - Anthony Middle School.
