MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
CHS Community,
I hope everyone survived our recent icing and enjoyed their unexpected day off. While I'm sure some of our students were thrilled with the extra time it certainly made for a shorter, but no less busy, week here at Chardon High School.
Despite the abbreviated week, we've made significant progress on several important fronts. We're continuing to finalize our course offerings for the upcoming school year, with student scheduling set to begin on March 11th. We're also deep in planning mode for graduation and end-of-year activities for our seniors.
Speaking of seniors, I had a very productive meeting today with three members of the senior class, and we've finalized some key dates for their end-of-year events. We're still working on the details for in-school events, but we're excited about the plans taking shape.
To keep everyone informed, I've attached a document below that outlines the current schedule. This is a working document, and it will be updated frequently as we finalize details. You can expect regular email communications from us throughout the planning process.
BLIZZARD BAGS
This past week Chardon Local School District had our fifth calamity day of the 2024-25 school year. If we exceed the allotted five (5) Calamity Days authorized in Ohio Revised Code 3313.48, the make-up plan known as “blizzard bags'' will be instituted. The lessons, which can be made up in exchange for two (2) days of instruction, can be found on the teacher’s Google Classroom by 10:00 am on the day of a calamity day. If you do not have internet access, please inform your child’s teacher so paper copies can be provided for you. Students who do not complete the lessons in the given time frame could receive an incomplete or failing grade, in addition to receiving an unexcused absence for the day that the blizzard bag replaces instruction.
FROM THE CLINIC
This is a friendly reminder regarding our fever-free recommendation for student attendance, which aligns with CDC guidelines.
We recommend that if your child has or has had a fever, they should not return to school until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications (such as Tylenol, Advil, Ibuprofen, Dayquil, etc.). This helps prevent the spread of illness and ensures the well-being of all our students and staff.
ATTENDANCE
Third quarter often sees a dip in student attendance. This can be due to various factors, but consistent attendance is essential for learning. Even a few missed days can impact progress.
We understand illnesses happen. But please prioritize getting your child to school whenever possible. Your support in combating the typical third-quarter slump is vital.
Let's work together to keep our students engaged and learning all year long! Contact us with any attendance concerns.
Building Schedule Week of February 10
NORMAL Schedule
Enjoy your weekend.
Mr. Tomco
THANK YOU...
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Coach Hewitt for his dedicated service over the past 14+ seasons to our football program. While I've only had the pleasure of working directly with Coach Hewitt since August, I've quickly come to appreciate his passion for working with our students.
Just this past year, several high schools and parents from other communities have sent me messages praising the character of our players and coaches under Mitch's leadership.
THANK YOU, Coach Hewitt, for your unwavering dedication. You will be missed on the sidelines, but we are fortunate to have you remain a part of the Chardon High School family.

CHORALE
Our Chardon High School Choirs, under Mr. Streiff's direction, delivered a stellar performance at the University of Akron Choir Invitational at EJ Thomas Hall this past week! We were honored to be one of only two high schools selected to participate.
Our Chorale (45 students in grades 11-12 and 15 in grades 8-10) worked incredibly hard to learn four challenging pieces in a very short timeframe, overcoming the added hurdle of recent snow days. Their dedication and talent truly shone through.
We are immensely proud of Mr. Streiff and our students for representing Chardon. They showcased the exceptional quality of our choral program.
