Roosevelt Report
April 5, 2026
Principal Points
Dear Roosevelt Families,
Welcome back! We hope your Spring Break was filled with rest, joy, and special time with family and friends. It is always wonderful to see our students return refreshed, recharged, and ready to learn!
As we begin this next chapter of the school year, our focus is on finishing strong. Throughout the coming weeks, we will be emphasizing the importance of growing independence, persevering through challenges, and continuing to build confidence as learners. This is such an important time of year for students to apply all they have learned and take ownership of their growth.
This week, teachers will be revisiting routines and expectations to help set the tone for a strong finish. Reinforcing these structures supports a positive, focused learning environment where all students can thrive.
We will also continue preparing our third and fourth grade students for the M-STEP assessment. Prior to break and over the next several days, students will participate in practice sessions to become familiar with the online testing platform and tools. These opportunities are designed to build comfort and confidence so students can do their very best.
Official M-STEP testing will begin on April 14.
We encourage families of our third and fourth graders to review the flyer below for ways you can support your child at home. Ensuring a good night’s sleep, providing a healthy breakfast, and maintaining a calm, positive mindset can make a meaningful difference.
At Roosevelt, we see this as an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and growth, and we are so proud of the hard work they have shown all year long.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we will help our students finish the year strong, confident, and proud of all they have accomplished.
With Tiger Pride,
Mrs. Samouelian

APRIL CHARACTER TRAIT: EMPATHY
Here is what we will be learning:
“Empathy means trying to understand how someone else is feeling and caring about their feelings.”
You can make it even more concrete with examples:
- “If your friend falls and gets hurt, empathy is when you feel sad for them and want to help.”
- “If someone is left out at recess, empathy is noticing how they might feel and inviting them to play.”
A simple phrase students remember well:
“Empathy is putting yourself in someone else’s shoes.”
A great book to use at home is the Inivisible Boy by
- Why it’s great: Shows what it feels like to be left out
- Big idea: Small acts of kindness can make someone feel seen
- Perfect for: K–4 classrooms and morning meetings
This is a go-to empathy book because students immediately connect to the feeling of being included or excluded.
ATTENTION 4TH GRADE FAMILIES
Roosevelt families should attend the PARENT orientation at Cooper on
May 21, 2026 from 7:00-7:45pm
