Bull's Eye Lab

Assessment Day

Bull's Eye Lab Assessment Day

What’s going to happen on Bull’s Eye Lab Assessment Day

  1. Teams will have 10 minutes to set up their track. Set up will include:

    1. proper angle

    2. equipment placement and

    3. markings to confirm the track hasn’t moved between rolls/students

  2. Included in the set up time is marking the LINE OF IMPACT. Each team will be given a ball (not the same steely used in the lab) to determine the line of impact on the floor. A piece of tape will be placed on the floor to identify the line of impact. No markings may be made on the line of impact.

  3. No additional tape/paper on either the floor or ramp that may indicate the release or impact points will be allowed.

  4. No markings may be placed on the floor or track. All current markings will either be removed or covered.

  5. Members may use their lab work when conducting the assessment. This may include: graphing calculator, scientific calculator, laptop (Chromebook) or good old pencil and paper.

  6. Members will need to prepare for:

    1. Given the release point on the track, determine the point of impact on the floor. The release point may be given as either the height above the table or position along the ramp. Members must be able to convert from one to the other if necessary.

    2. Given the point of impact on the floor, determine the release point on the track.

  7. Members will NOT tape the target to the floor.

  8. When ready for testing, a piece of carbon paper will be placed on top of the target. The steely used in the lab will be rolled 3 times from the same position. Adjustments between rolls are not allowed. The impacts from the three rolls should be closely clustered together. If it appears adjustments are being made between rolls the lowest scoring roll will count as the grade. An Impact that hits a line will receive the higher score.
