Holy Rosary
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3| WEEK 1| 25th JULY 2025
Father, may your name be held holy,
your kingdom come;
give us each day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us.
And do not put us to the test.
Amen
Welcome Back!
It’s been absolutely wonderful to see so many happy faces back at school this week. The energy and joy in our community is truly uplifting.
I had the privilege of attending the Opening Mass for the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, where Bishop Tim shared a powerful message. He reminded us of the importance of celebrating our God-given strengths. Too often, we fall into a mindset of focusing on what we lack, rather than recognising and nurturing what we do well.
As we begin this new term, I encourage all our families to take a moment each day to reflect on the positives. Share with your child what you see as their strengths, and ask them what went well in their day. These small conversations can have a big impact on building confidence and a growth mindset.
I’d also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Grace Dwyer for her leadership in my absence, with wonderful support from Joe Kinder and our dedicated staff. Their commitment to our school community is deeply appreciated.
Let’s continue to support one another in creating a community that celebrates the unique gifts of every child.
Warm regards,
Michael O'Dwyer

eScooters at School
We’ve noticed a growing number of students riding eScooters to and from school. We are needing to frequently remind our students to walk and not ride their scooters and bikes throughout the school grounds. If your child does make their own way to school, thank you for reminding them to walk their scooter / bike when they are on school grounds.
It's important that students and families are aware of the legal and safety requirements when using eRideables, such as eScooters, on public paths and roads.
According to the WA Road Safety Commission, riders must:
- Be at least 16 years old to ride an eScooter in public:
- Children under 16 are permitted to ride low-powered electric scooters which do not exceed 200w or 10km/h.
- Wear a helmet at all times.
- Ride at safe speeds (max 25km/h on shared paths and roads; 10km/h on footpaths).
- Follow the same rules as bicycles when crossing roads.
We ask all families to please take a moment to familiarise themselves with the rules at:
streetwise.rsc.wa.gov.au/rules/erideables
Let’s work together to keep our students, families, and community safe, respectful, and streetwise!
Naidoc Week Celebration
Parents are welcome to join us for Mass, Welcome to Country and the Moorditj Mob Performance in the gym
Holy Rosary School will be celebrating NAIDOC Week on Friday 1st of August (Week 2). This special day provides an opportunity for our school community to recognise and honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The day will begin with a Mass in the Church, led by our Year 5 students. Following this, we will be joined by Jayden Boundary for a Welcome to Country and enjoy a dance performance by the Moorditj Mob from Wesley College. Families are invited to attend these two events.
After recess, students will rotate through a variety of engaging activities with their buddy class, designed to deepen their understanding and appreciation of First Nations cultures and perspectives.
Students are encouraged to wear NAIDOC colours (red, black, yellow, green and blue) or their school sports uniform. We also invite students to bring in a gold coin donation for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Donations help provide books, books in First Languages and learning resources to children and families living in remote communities across Australia.
We look forward to this meaningful day of learning, reflection and celebration.
Performing Arts Festival
The Performing Arts Festival began this week. Our Piano Solo students Leo, Xavier and Chris will be performing next week. We wish them well for their performances.
The festival is run by volunteers, and they are looking for helpers over the next week at Zenith music in Claremont. If you can help for a few hours, please email Holy Rosary office with the times you are available.
Thank you
Michelle Kirwan
ICAS Assessments Yrs 4-6
For any families wishing to enrol their children in the 2025 ICAS Assessments, please see the link below for more information and to purchase assessments.
What a great start to Term 3. Year 5 Book Club celebrated finishing their book with a party on Thursday.
Junior Chess started with 60 participants from Years 1, 2 and 3. It is now too late to enrol in the chess for 2025 with all rounds organised. The Tournament will run mainly on Wednesdays and Thursdays at lunchtimes and students are encouraged to keep an eye on the library window, so they know when they are playing. They need to eat their lunch and be ready to start their games at 1.15pm. Thank you again to our amazing Year 5 and 6 umpires for their assistance.
Book Week is in Week 5 and the theme this year is “Book An Adventure”. The library is full of adventure, thank you to Mrs Capolingua and we can’t wait for our famous Book Week Parade on Friday 22nd August. Students are encouraged to dress as their favourite book character using items they already have at home. It is wonderful to see classes working on their Book Week art and parents are invited to view this in the library after the Parade.
Stay warm!

Holidays are great for reconnecting and spending time with your children. The students are so happy to be back, even though they miss you, and I have loved hearing their holiday stories. The 3 day short week has been a lovely start for them to get back into learning and friendships.
Term 3 means Holy Rosary’s Got Talent! Year 6 Council Groups will be busy organising this fabulous even for the last day of term as well as a Vinnies Winter Collection this term.
Friendology and URStrong continue to help our students make healthy friendships. Thank you to all parents and guardians for supporting the program by talking to their children using Friendology language and themes. Here is this week’s parent information. For previous sessions, please refer to last terms newsletters.
Think of Yourself as a “Friendship Coach”: The Founder of URSTRONG was interviewed by the Sydney Morning Herald who asked her, “Should parents get involved in their kids’ friendships?” Here are some Dos & Don’ts to coach your child from the sidelines.

Together we can keep our community as healthy as possible.
