Helping your Buckaroo Grow
📚 READING: Growing Strong Readers
Kindergarten
Practice recognizing and naming letters and their sounds.
Blend sounds together to read simple words: /m/ /a/ /t/ → mat.
Practice recognizing and reading high-frequency words.
Read books together every day.
Ask your child to retell the story using beginning, middle, and end.
Talk about characters, settings, and what happened in the story.
Look for letters and words on signs, menus, packages, and around your home.
Encourage your child to draw a picture and tell you about it.
Try this:
Choose a letter of the day. Look around the house for objects that begin with that sound.
1st Grade
Practice reading short, decodable words and sentences.
Review high-frequency words.
Read aloud to your child and let your child read to you.
Ask questions about what they read:
What happened?
Why did it happen?
What do you think will happen next?
What was the most important part?
Have your child retell a story in order.
Encourage your child to use evidence from the book when answering questions.
Practice spelling words by saying the sounds rather than simply memorizing the letters.
Let your child write about something they read or experienced.
Try this:
After reading a book, ask your child to tell you the story without looking at the pictures. See how much they remember!
2nd Grade
Read every day to build fluency, accuracy, and confidence.
Practice reading unfamiliar words by looking for:
familiar word parts
prefixes and suffixes
vowel patterns
smaller words within larger words
Ask questions that encourage deeper thinking.
Have your child identify the main idea and supporting details.
Compare characters, events, or information across a text.
Ask your child to explain how they know an answer.
Encourage your child to use new vocabulary in conversation.
Have your child write a short response about what they read.
Try this:
After reading, ask: “What makes you think that?” Encourage your child to go back to the text to find evidence.

Caring for our school after hours
We are grateful that our school property is a place where our community can gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors after school hours. We love seeing families and community members making use of our campus and enjoying the spaces we work so hard to maintain for our Buckaroos.
As a reminder, when using the school grounds after hours, please help us take care of our campus by picking up your own trash and belongings before you leave. This includes food wrappers, bottles, cups, toys, sports equipment, and any other items brought onto the property.
Our students spend each day learning to Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful, and we ask our community to model those same values. Leaving our campus clean and ready for the next day is a simple way to show respect for our school, our students, our staff, and one another.
We also ask that community members remain mindful of areas that are closed or gated after hours. These spaces are restricted for safety and security reasons and should not be accessed.
Thank you for helping us keep our school a welcoming, safe, and beautiful place for everyone. When we all do our part, we help care for the place we share.

Your Support Makes a Difference!
Our BHP fundraisers do more than raise money—they directly support our students, staff, and school! Funds raised help provide student experiences and resources, classroom and staff needs, and improvements to our school and campus.
Every dollar raised stays focused on making Blue Hole Primary an even better place to learn, grow, and thrive. Thank you for partnering with us and supporting our Buckaroos! 🐮❤️
Transportation Changes
All transportation changes need to go through the front office BEFORE 2:00. You can call our main number at 512-847-3407 or email BHPlogistics@wimberleyisd.net. Transportation changes recieved after 2:00 may not be honored. Please get them in early. When we have to pull a student off the bus to get in the car rider line, it holds up our entire dismissal process.
Please do not rely on the teacher for transportation changes. They are busy teaching and may not be able to check email.
