MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
CHS Community,
This is the last "On The Hill" communication of 2025, with only five days remaining until winter break.
Student Council, Sources of Strength, AC4P/Interact Club, and National Honors Society would like to extend a massive "thank you" to everyone who organized and participated in our first-ever Winter Edition of the Battle of the Classes! What a blast it was to see our 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade teams, along with our incredibly spirited Staff team, going head-to-head in a whirlwind of holiday-themed events! From shaving cream beards to gingerbread competitions to hilarious relay races, the gym was buzzing with energy, friendly rivalry, and unforgettable moments.
Every grade showed incredible teamwork, creativity, and holiday hustle, making the competition tough right up until the final tie-breaker round. The participation and enthusiasm from all students and staff truly made this a successful and fun-filled afternoon.
Congratulations to our Reigning Battle of the Classes Champions.... the Seniors! Enjoy your victory!
With the recent weather, we are actively managing travel safety on campus. The student lot is plowed before arrival, and due to the surface type, we use grit and grindings instead of salt to improve traction, and we have not yet received concerns about limited parking or students getting stuck.
For the safety of our bus riders, the gate to the track has been closed to divert foot traffic, as the track will not be cleared of snow; students riding the bus should not be walking across it in the morning. We would like to recognize the maintenance department for their excellent work clearing the snow along the Alcan to the high school.
We will continue to monitor the conditions around the building to ensure all students and staff are traveling safely.
EARLY RELEASE FORM
Our Midterm Exam schedule runs Wednesday, Dec. 17 through Friday, Dec. 19.
During these three days, all students are eligible for early release once their scheduled exams are complete (9:15 AM, 10:50 AM or 1:10 PM). However, for safety and attendance purposes, we strictly require a permission form for any student leaving campus early.
Please complete the permission form here: MIDTERM EARLY RELEASE
MIDTERM EXAMS BEGIN DECEMBER 17
Late Start / Early Release Eligibility: ALL students are eligible for late arrival or early dismissal during midterm week, if they are not scheduled a midterm exam.
NOT Open Campus: This IS NOT an open campus schedule. Students may not leave the building and return between exams. For example, if your student has an exam 2nd period and a gap until 5th period, they must remain on campus or they must be signed out for the day after the 2nd period exam.
Absences: If a student will be absent for any period or day of the midterm schedule, they must contact their teacher in advance to arrange a make-up time for the assessment.
Bussing/Meals: Normal school bussing will still take place. Breakfast and lunch will be served all week, and students who remain on campus without an exam will be supervised.
Transportation Note: Students who leave campus at any point during the school day may not return at dismissal (2:40 PM) to ride district transportation.
AM Auburn Students: Your exam will be taken from 11:40-1:10 with the following schedule:

SPORTS OFFICIATING COURSE
The district is proud to recognize 18 students who successfully completed the Introduction to Sports Officiating course. Taught by Dr. Brad Hilliard, and offered for the first time this past semester, this program gives students the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience needed to begin working as certified OHSAA officials in our community.
This year’s group includes newly trained officials in a wide range of sports:
Baseball: 1
Basketball: 1
Boys Lacrosse: 4
Football: 6
Ice Hockey: 1
Soccer: 3
Wrestling: 2
Throughout the course, students studied sport-specific rules, conflict management strategies, communication skills, budgeting, and the history of officiating. They also engaged in hands-on practice by partnering with the Team Sports class, giving them valuable “real-world” experience applying what they learned.
These students have demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and a commitment to supporting safe and fair play. We congratulate them on their achievement and look forward to seeing them officiate in our schools and local youth sports programs.
