Honeybees Return!
- Grades 1 and 2 completing STEM projects linked to their study of fairy tales: could they build houses that the wolf wouldn't be able to blow down? Many did, and they had a blast building and working together!
- Grades 3 and 4 have began a much-anticipated study of mythology - so many students were excited to tell me about the characteristics of their favorite gods. I can't wait to see what creative stories and projects they come up with!
- Kindergartners created beautiful snowmen in art this week, which have brightened up our front hallway with some winter cheer. Check them out next time you stop in the building.
- All students went "shopping" at the RVS book store, and those who completed their December reading challenges were first in line. Graphic novels, amazing non-fiction about snakes and sharks, and even some great "how to" books about building with cardboard and science projects were flying off the shelves.
It was a great first few days back - looking forward to our first full five-day week!
RVS Important to Remember
- School is closed next Monday, 1/15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- On January 29th, we will have an early release day at 12:00. Bridges will be offered on this date for students typically registered on Mondays.
- Report cards will be sent home with students the week of January 29th.
- Winter break is coming up from 2/26 - 3/4.
Winter Clothes and Inside Shoes: needed every day
Caregivers - we need your help! A lack of organization around winter clothing and shoes is taking up quite a bit of time for kids when they arrive at school and in getting in/out from recess. We want to make sure everyone has what they need easily accessible, so kids are not spending valuable classroom time looking for shoes or gear.
While we had out bins of spare winter clothing, students were heading to them every day to grab new gloves, hats and snow pants when they couldn't immediately find their own, or didn't want their own. As you can imagine, this resulted in some big, wet piles to organize every day, and a lot of missing gear from the RVS supplies. We have put these bins away for the season, although these supplies are still available for families who need any type of winter gear. At our morning meeting, we have reviewed how to keep track of your own gear, and we let kids know that we will not have extras out at every single recess. To help, please:
1) Label your child's items, whenever possible
2) Check with your child in the morning to make sure they have their winter gear
3) Let Tina or Shannon know if you need anything else, and we will get a labeled one to your kiddo!
We are experiencing a similar issue with shoes - many children are heading to the nurse's office every morning to try to find indoor shoes that will fit them, as they are not comfortable wearing their winter boots all day long while working on the rugs, attending P.E, etc. We do not have an extensive collection of shoes, nor do we have everyone's size. Please be sure that your kiddo brings shoes to school. They are welcome to leave them here in their cubbies if they do not want to bring them back and forth.
Thank you so much for your help with this - very much looking forward to heading outside in our sneakers and flip flops in a few (haha) months.
