Empowering Every Child to Succeed- September, 12th
Principal Message
Hello Hoover Families,
What a great first full week of school! Ok not full first week as we minus the early release! We had so much learning going on already. Students have been hard at work with our phonics and word study programs and it is exciting to see how they are working with words in their reading!
Some great celebrations happened this week!
- We had our first Husky Huddle where we celebrated our first Super Huskies of the year, talked about our reading bookmarks and how many we look forward to earning with our nightly reading, and meeting all of our staff! Herbert even paid us a visit! Students and staff had a blast. Check out the pictures below.
- Another celebration this week is that afterschool pick is getting faster! Thank you to all of you for staying with us. Reminder that we changed up our procedures in order to make all students were staff during pick up and ensure that all students were picked up by the appropriate parent/guardian. Please continue to stay in your car and go around on Roe Crest Drive. Please do not park on Hoover Drive and Walk over. If you would like to pick up your student in another location (church, or off the cul-de-sac on Hoover Dr) please make sure to communicate with your child's teacher that they are going to be walkers and you plan to pick them up from that location.
I can't tell you how exciting it has been to get to know your kids. I appreciate you sharing them with us and look forward to meeting you all throughout the year!
Full of Husky Pride!
Mrs. Miller
1st Husky Huddle of 25-26 School Year
Staff had a friendly competition out of who could make the "BEST" introduction at our first Husky Huddle this year . Our Kindergarten staff went above and beyond with making customized Cake Pop t-shirts! 😄😁. Even made one for Herbert and Mrs. Miller!
Our NEW School Store is Now Open!
Ask your students about our new school store!
Students earn Proud Paws from Hoover Staff for following our school expectations:
- Be Safe
- Be Responsible
- Be Respectful
- Be Your Best
They can then "purchase" items from Herbert's Shop with their Proud Paws. Some of these fun items include, Rubber Duckies, Stickers, Mochi Squishies, Croc Charms, Fun Erasers, Tech Decks, Sunglasses, Scrunchies etc.
Side Note: If you are decluttering/cleaning house and have leftover party favors or non-used toys that you are willing to part with, we are accepting donations to the school store and Hoover Reading Club Prize bin.

Safety at Hoover
Safety at Hoover is extremely important to us. We utilize a standard response protocol across MAPs. Part of those procedures include Hold/Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. We will practice different parts of this plan throughout the year. Here are some examples of when your child may experience each of these drills.
Examples
Hold- A Hold simply means everyone stays in their classrooms while the hallways are kept clear. Teaching and learning continue as usual, but students do not leave the room until the Hold is lifted. Holds are usually short and may not affect every classroom.
Some examples of when we would do a hold is:
Medical Emergency in the hallway.
Unfinished maintenance that is being worked on.
A student that may be dysregulated.
Lockdown
Students move away from windows and doors, doors remain locked and lights turned off, students remain quiet, and out of sight.
To prepare students and staff for an exceedingly rare circumstance - when an intruder enters the school premises
Evacuation
Students exit the building and go to their evacuation site.
Fire in the building
Mechanical/Power Failure
Gas Leak
Shelter
Students report to their shelter in place locations.
Tornado
Severe weather
Flooding
We will be practicing our first lockdown drill of the year. Please read of the linked letter here in order for you to get more information and background about this specific procedure.
Panorama Survey
Dear Mankato Area Public School Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Mankato Area Public Schools values input from our community – and we need to hear from your child or children! Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program and overall experience for everyone.
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys.
Our students have many qualities and skills to succeed both in school and in everyday life now and in the future. Qualities such as humility, curiosity, empathy, resilience, and self-awareness often aren't measured through traditional methods. By administering SEL screeners and seeking to understand how students feel about themselves, we are valuing student voice and emphasizing the importance of supporting them in their development. It’s essential that we hear from our students.
The survey window for the screener runs from Oct. 1 - Oct. 15th. Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by filling in your name and your child’s name below and returning it to school by September 26th. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 507-388-5202.
Thank you once again for your collaboration.
Best regards,
Sincerely,
Tabatha Miller
