Principal's Desk
Dear CMIT South Elementary Families,
As we approach the final weeks of our school year, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible perseverance shown by our students, teachers, and parents. As Maya Angelou once said, "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."
Your continued support and partnership in your child's education has been instrumental in their growth and achievement this year. Together, we're nurturing resilient, curious minds ready to overcome any challenge.
Weekly Schedule Information
Please ensure your child follows their A-Week/Week 1 schedule for Creative Arts (CARTS) classes this week.

Celebrating Mrs. Duncan's National Recognition!
Congratulations to our music teacher Mrs. Duncan on receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from AmeriCorps and the Office of the President for her exceptional volunteer service to the nation! She was also honored with an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters. Let's give a mighty TIGER ROAR for Mrs. Duncan's extraordinary achievements!
Ms. Womack's 2nd Grade โRainbow Celery Experimentโ
Ms. Womack's 2nd graders recently conducted the Rainbow Celery Experiment! Students watched as colored water traveled up through tiny vessels in celery stalks to the leaves, similar to how blood moves through our bodies. This fun, hands-on activity taught students about "capillary action" and how plants absorb water. Using food coloring and celery, they created colorful results that made learning about plant science exciting! Ask these young scientists about their experiment - they're eager to share their discoveries with you!
Tiger Mart
Hello Parents,
We need your help to get the Tiger Mart off to a great start! Please take a moment to check out our Amazon wish list and consider purchasing something for our school store. We understand that the soft opening didn't go as planned, but rest assured, the Roary Trolley will be up and running next Friday for all the students to enjoy! Your support means a lot to us.

Additionally, please note that teachers and staff are unable to participate in distributing communications/invitations or email addresses related to birthday celebrations. All planning for birthdays needs to happen outside of school so that it does not take away from the purpose of instruction.

Counselor's Corner
Dear CMIT Families,
On May 8th, we recognized Childrenโs Mental Health Awareness Day. This day was a vital reminder that emotional wellness is just as important as academic success. At CMIT, we are committed to nurturing the whole child, and that includes supporting students' mental and emotional well-being every day.
Why It Matters:
Mental health plays a critical role in how children think, feel, and act. It affects their ability to cope with stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Addressing mental health early builds strong foundations for lifelong resilience.
A Growing Concern:
Recently, we've seen an increase in negative self-talk among students. Phrases like "I'm not good enough" or "I can't do anything right" may seem small but can be powerful indicators of low self-esteem and anxiety.
How You Can Help at Home:
โ
Model positive language โ Let your child hear you speak kindly to yourself.
โ
Reframe mistakes โ Teach that mistakes are chances to learn, not failures.
โ
Encourage effort over outcome โ Praise hard work and persistence, not just results.
โ
Practice affirmations โ Help your child say things like โI can try my bestโ or โI am learning every day.โ
โ
Check in often โ A simple โHow are you feeling today?โ can open the door to deeper conversations.
Together, we can help our children replace negative self-talk with confidence, compassion, and courage.
If you have concerns about your childโs emotional well-being, please donโt hesitate to reach out to our school counselor.

KVS
KVS is our school's dismissal tool for car riders. All parents MUST fill out their KVS number when picking up their scholar. It is imperative that numbers are entered once you reach the car line. If your scholar is a car rider, please take time to help him or her practice memorizing his or her number as this will make the dismissal process much quicker!
Important Forms to Complete
We are going digital!!! Don't forget to complete your Emergency Contact and Pick List, Student Publicity Release Form, and Parent Compact form for each of your scholars.
