Congratulations, Graduates!
On Saturday, May 16, we celebrated 73 incredible graduates and all the moments that brought them here. From classrooms and campus to competitions, performances, friendships, and traditions, the GWA Class of 2026 has left a lasting mark on our school community. Congratulations to valedictorian and Hearn Medallion recipient Madeline Jackson, salutatorian Anthony Pham, and all of our outstanding graduates!
Recognizing Achievement and Dedication
The annual senior banquet brought together the class of 2026, their families, faculty members and local community partners to reflect on the students' years of dedication across academics, fine arts, athletics and civic involvement. The evening served as a celebration of the hard work and leadership that define this year's graduates as they prepared for commencement and their future endeavors.

GWA Robotics Tackles Automation Challenge
What does it take to build a fully autonomous robot? Students in Mr. Gasaway's Robotics 401 class recently found out during a rigorous, two-phase engineering project.
Phase One: Teaching a Robot to See Students programmed their robots to use a VEX Vision Sensor to identify blocks by color and size, automatically sorting them into designated quadrants. This step required precise sensor calibration and patient troubleshooting.
Phase Two: The Delivery Run Next, students wrote a new program directing their robots to grab a sorted block, maneuver across the room, avoid obstacles, and drop it off at a target site. To succeed, each robot had to complete the entire run three consecutive times.
Through this hands-on challenge, students learned that true engineering isn't just about getting a robot to work once - it's about designing a reliable, repeatable system ready for the real world.
Building Math Skills: Fourth Graders Bring Geometry to Life!
Mrs. Griggs’ fourth-grade class wrapped up the school year with an exciting, hands-on construction project that brought their measurement and geometry lessons to life. Students sketched plans, measured carefully, cut and sanded wood, used power tools (with volunteer assistance!) and applied stain to complete their projects. This year’s impressive builds included custom benches, step stools, and hanging basket stands. This project is a highly anticipated tradition every year, perfectly demonstrating to students just how practical -and rewarding - math can be outside the classroom. Great job, fourth grade!

Campus Beautification
Artists in fourth grade were able to be part of a special project to help brighten up our campus! These students took their talents outside to add some beauty to a few spots around the second- and third-grade hallways. Building on their previous unit of stained-glass artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, these paintings are made to resemble stained glass windows. What started out as plain plywood boards quickly turned into floral masterpieces! These students worked hard to fill their spaces with color and bring some life to these spaces. They did an amazing job, and it's just a small example of how the arts can positively impact our everyday life!
Congrats, Officer Charlie!
A big Bulldog congratulations to our SRO, Officer Charlie Mehalick, on earning a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Liberty University! He traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia, to celebrate the achievement and receive his diploma in person.
