Paul Kovach Receives ISD 196 Outstanding Service Award!
Among more than 4,400 employees in Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools, six staff members have been selected for the 2026 Outstanding Service Awards — the district’s highest honor for employees.
“We have a large and dedicated staff who work hard on behalf of our students,” said Superintendent Michael Bolsoni. “To be nominated for an Outstanding Service Award by your peers says a lot about your character, care for others, and service to our community. This is the Hall of Fame for employees of District 196.”
Our very own Paul Kovach received the Outstanding Service Award this week!
Each award winner was nominated by their colleagues. Here's a short excerpt from Paul's nomination:
Paul Kovach, Eagan High School, Business & Career Development Teacher, 27+ Years in District 196
Paul has been selflessly serving Eagan High School for his entire career. His dedication to this community is simply unmatched. Students turn to Paul, seeking him out as a mentor and role model. He encourages all students to dream big, achieve, and participate. He also mentors aspiring teachers in our Grow Your Own program. Paul is a leader on the faculty who gets things done. He is a man of his word who consistently backs up his promises with meaningful action, leaving an indelible mark on the culture and heart of Eagan High School. We are all better people because of him — as a role model, a highly engaged teacher and a consummate professional.
Congratulations Paul! We are so happy for you!
EHS Pride: Top 11 Teacher Candidate is Isaiah Pritzl!
We’re proud to share that Isaiah Pritzl has advanced to the top 11 candidates for Minnesota Teacher of the Year from an original pool of 128 nominees!
A graduate of Eagan High School, Isaiah returned to EHS in 2021 as an English teacher and has made a meaningful impact through his engaging instruction and strong relationships with students. Beyond the classroom, he serves as a Link Leader, Black Student Union advisor, coach, and mentor in the Teachers of Color program.
The official luncheon will take place on Sunday, May 3, where one candidate will be selected as Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
Congratulations, Isaiah—this recognition is incredibly well deserved and we're all rooting for you!
Congrats to Eagan Speech Team!
We have exciting results from our Section Speech Tournament this past Tuesday. This year, we brought 41 students to the section tournament. Of those 41 students, 38 made it to the final rounds of their event !! This is a HUGE deal, and a major testament to the quality work and dedication of both the students and coaches of the EHS Speech Team.
The top three students in each category qualified for the MSHSL State AA Speech Tournament on Friday, April 24th at Park Center High School. This year, we have 22 students who will be competing at State!
EHS Students compete in America's Future Summit
We are excited to announce that on March 9-10, 2026, EHS students Kyle Chen and Elijah Daniel competed in America’s Future Summit, a youth leadership competition where teens develop and pitch civic solutions for America’s future.
Kyle Chen’s team pitched their idea to create voter education videos developed by and for youth, focused on voter registration, voting, and engaging in the legislative process.
Elijah Daniel’s team pitched their idea to establish a transportation buddy system to reduce obstacles for students to attend school and after-school programs.
Congratulations on participating in this wonderful program!
Food Drive Results
The annual EHS Food Drive wrapped up on March 18 with an incredible show of generosity from our school community. Together, we collected 844 non-perishable food items and $708.08 for The Open Door in Eagan, which serves nearly 20,000 people each month. Your contributions will make a meaningful difference for families in our community.
The drive also included a friendly competition between PAWS classes. Congratulations to the top finishers:
-
1st Place: Mrs. Elliott – 330 points
-
2nd Place: Ms. Melville – 308 points
-
3rd Place: Mr. Haight – 273 points
-
Honorable Mention: The Kitchen Staff – 275 points
Our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place PAWS classes each earned a breakfast provided by Student Council! Congratulations to Ms. Elliott, Ms. Melville and Mr Haight's PAWS classes, and thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year’s food drive a success!
Safe Routes to School Study
District 196 and the City of Eagan are partnering on a Safe Routes To School study — looking at walking or biking to school, crossing roadways to/from neighborhoods, performing drop-off and pick-up, or navigating the school campus.
We are providing an interactive online map to collect your comments or concerns about existing routes.
The survey asks: Where do you have transportation safety concerns on or around the school campuses? This includes walking or biking to school, crossing roadways to/from neighborhoods, performing drop-off and pick-up, or navigating the school campus.
Start by clicking: Add Comments Here in the main menu. Then click the type of issue (driving, walking, biking, etc.) Then click the map location of your concern, and type your comments.
This survey will remain open for about two weeks.
ACT Test
The ACT for Grade 11 students, and PreACT for Grade 10 students will be administered on Tuesday, April 14 starting at 7:40 AM.
- Students in grades 9 and 12 will have an E Learning Day on Tuesday, April 14th.
Tuesday, April 14th is the day when all juniors (11th graders) will take the official ACT, paid for by the school district. All sophomores (10th graders) will take the PreACT on the same day. The PreACT is used to help predict the ACT and to help students understand areas they need to work to improve.
April 14 - grades 9 and 12 will have a digital learning day - working with assignments on Schoology and not reporting to school.

Student Parking/Construction Reminder
Construction Involving the Stadium Parking Lot Begins Soon!
We have been informed by our District that, due to the warmer weather we have experienced, the construction project will begin over Spring Break at EHS. (Of course, this is the projected plan and actual construction may be later.)
EHS Students with Parking Passes for Spring Trimester will still have the large East Parking lot but no longer have the Stadium Parking lot as it will be under construction of the large underground water reservoir and relocation of the large storm water pipe. The Stadium Parking lot will also be used for construction throughout the project for the next year and one half.
The new parking lot to the north of the Stadium, along Braddock Trail, will open after Spring Break for student parking during the school day – only for students with Spring Trimester parking permits. It is striped for parking and lighted as needed.

College and University Visits
Students and parents should plan to visit college/university campuses on non-school days or outside of school hours. If this is not possible and students will be absent three or more school days, a Pre-Planned Authorization Form must be filled out, signed and authorized prior to the absence. If this process is followed, the absence will be verified. Forms are available in the attendance office.
Pre-Planned Absence Procedure
Attendance Reminder:
Students absent 3 or more days for a pre-planned absence should complete the “Pre-Planned Authorization” form.
The forms are located in the EHS Attendance Office.
- The form should be completed and submitted prior to the planned absence. We recommend at least one week or more in advance.
- The student is responsible for arranging make-up assignments with all teachers before the absence to receive credit for the work.
- Vacation absences beyond 5 days will be marked as unexcused. These absences will count in the excessive absence policy.
