10.27.25 Providencia Elementary School Newsletter
Dear Providencia Families,
Thank you Providencia for hosting and/or supporting our Trunk 'n Treat last Friday! Thank you to Kelly Watson and Becky Mullins for coordinating the event and Ebenly Alvarado for bringing all the awesome food vendors! We even sold out of the smoothies from Juice It Up! to help with our upcoming Science Fair! What an amazing event for our children and it truly brought our community together!
This week we are celebrating National Red Ribbon Week!
DID YOU KNOW?
Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Red Ribbon Week® (October 23-31), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started. This year’s theme is Life Is A Puzzle, Solve It Drug Free.™ Visit www.redribbon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week® and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs. You can start by downloading and discussing the pledges below. The life you save may be that of your own child or a dear friend.

Respectfully,
Principal Celeste

Upcoming Schoolwide Walking Field Trip
Your child will be learning about Ruby Bridges in a few weeks in preparation for our Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day event on Fri. 11/14. At only six years old, Ruby's bravery helped pave the way for Civil Rights action and her story continues to inspire the next generation to end racism together one step at a time.
On Nov. 14th, we encourage students and their families to celebrate the benefits of walking, bicycling or rolling to school as well as pay tribute to Ruby Bridges. At the start of school, all teachers, staff and students will walk outside the perimeter of our campus. Parents must complete an electronic Walking Field Trip Form by Nov. 7th in order for your child to participate.
Mon., 10/27 DEIB Committee Meeting
Fri. 10/31 Halloween Parade
The students will be parading around twice. During the parade we kindly ask that you take candid photos; please do not ask your child to stop and pose so the parade can flow smoothly. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.
.
- Our Halloween Parade will be on Fri., Oct. 31st at 8:45 am on the playground blacktop.
- Please bring your child(ren) to school on Halloween. Maintaining their attendance is important and we do not want them to miss important academic instruction. If your child is unable to participate in Halloween activities due to religious/cultural reasons, please let your child’s teacher know and we will arrange alternate activities for them.
- Students may come to school in costume and they may choose to stay in costume or change out of their costume.
- NO guns, knives, swords, weapons, baseball bats and excessive blood are allowed.
- Masks can only be used during parade. It must be put away during the rest of the instructional day.
- NO CANDY OR GUM are allowed to be passed out and/or consumed. Candy will be confiscated by staff members.
- Parent/guardians, we kindly ask that you refrain from wearing masks or costumes that will keep us from being able to identify you as a parent/guardian. Thank you!
- We prioritize classroom instructional minutes therefore we do not allow Halloween, Winter or birthday parties. We only have 1 classroom celebration 1x/year which is held on or near Valentines Day.
Sat., 11/1 Beautification Day with Lowe's Heroes Program
We will be collaborating with Lowe's Heroes Program for our bi-annual Beautification Day on Sat., Nov. 1st! Bring your family and your neighbors to help give Providencia a much needed facelift! We need help painting more sight words words in our hallways, sweeping and picking up trash around campus, sprucing up the teachers' patio and TK/K yard and building raised planters. Beautification Day is a great way to teach our children about community service and caring for the environment. Bring your family for an hour or stay the whole time! Please RSVP by clicking on this link or below.

October DEIB Observances
At Providencia we are committed to addressing ways to create a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where all students, especially students of color and/or those who have been historically marginalized, are respected and valued. With our diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts, we foster a school culture of inclusion, we celebrate our diversity, and students see themselves reflected in our curriculum.
DEIB provides us an opportunity to learn and recognize the contributions and accomplishments of historically marginalized groups. Throughout the month we’ll feature websites and book recommendations, local celebrations and resources.
Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging Displays
We are working on DEIB displays in our office and student hallway with artifacts and pictures of historical figures. If you would like to display an artifact (i.e. art, clothing, accessories, books) to represent any of the observances below, please label it with your child's name and bring it to school. We will return it at the end of our October observances. Thank you!
