October at Lindenwold ECC
Notes from the Principals
by Mr. Jeff Patterson (Principal) and Ms. Melanie Martin (Assistant Principal)
Our school year is off to a great start! Students that were nervous and worried about walking into school on our first day are joyfully running in to the building. Students who had never been in a classroom before are making friends and learning important skills. It's been great to see your children's progress! That said, below are a few important points we’d like to share as get ready for October to begin.
⦿ We have opportunities for families to get involved in the building in October. We’d love to see you at any of these upcoming events, listed at the bottom of this newsletter.
⦿ Preschool and Kindergarten families-Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in their classroom. Lots of things can-and do-happen in Preschool and Kindergarten!
⦿If your child is out sick, please send Doctor's note to Ms. Rivera and Ms. Vanoyen in the Main Office.
⦿ If you qualify for Free and Reduced lunch and have not yet filled out the necessary form, please know they’re available in the Office and can be printed from our website.
⦿ Please be mindful that we are still need of Flu Vaccine paperwork from many Preschool families. If we do not have record of students having received a flu vaccine, these Preschoolers will not be able to return from school after Winter Break until we do.
⦿ Thank you for being understanding as we have worked through our Kindergarten and First Grade Arrival process. Things seem to be getting better every day!
This Month's Family Engagement Activities
Hispanic Heritage Parade (Preschool-1st Grade) and Hispanic Heritage Read Alouds (Preschool)
UPDATED: Thursday, October 2nd based on COMMUNITY PARKING FEEDBACK
We are pleased to announce that the ECC will be holding building-wide Hispanic Heritage parades on 10/23. We we will be doing the same parade three times-once for the families of our Preschoolers, once for the families of our Kindergartners, and once for the families of our 1st Graders.
The parades will be identical.
We are holding our first parade-for the families of our Preschoolers at 10:00.
We will hold our second parade-for the families of our Kindergartners at 11;00
We will hold the third parade-for the families of our 1st Graders-at 2:30.
Doing three separate parades should, hopefully, make it so that the parking lot is accessible. We ask that no students be picked up after the parade. Each parade should last 20-30 minutes.
Preschool also has its own monthly Family Engagement activities. Preschool's October Family Engagement Activities will be Hispanic Heritage read-alouds. If you’d like to come to your Preschool child’s class and read a story (in Spanish or in English) that fits that theme, please stay tuned for more details. We want to make sure all of our students feel represented and comfortable at school. Expect more opportunities like this throughout the year!
[Please note that the Character Parade that has historically been done at some buildings in October is being shifted to March in conjunction with Read Across America week]
Notes from Our Nurse
By Ms. Amanda Peacock RN, BSN-Lindenwold Early Childhood Center Nurse
As we settle into the new school year, I’d like to introduce myself as the school nurse for Lindenwold’s Early Childhood Center. With 10 years of nursing experience, I’m entering the ECC with excitement and eagerness to learn and explore just as our ECC families and students.
Throughout the school year, I am here to help your child with nursing care including first aid, emergencies, scheduled & emergency medication administration, and other valuable services such as: height & weight, blood pressure screenings, and hearing & vision testing. Below are some health-related notes I'd like to share with you:
Medical Concern/Health Condition:
If your child has any medical concerns or health conditions, such as asthma, food allergy, seizures, diabetes, etc., please reach out to me. We need documentation and a plan for the school day from your doctor, along with necessary medications.
Medications:
If your child needs medication, over the counter or prescription, we will need documentation from a physician. Please bring your child’s medication into school, in its original container & label, with a written order from the prescribing physician. No student may carry medication on them or in their bookbag.
Illness:
It is very important to keep your child home if they are exhibiting any symptoms or you suspect your child may be starting an illness. If your child is sent home with a suspecting illness, a note may be required from your physician for your child to return to school. Some instances to keep your child home from school include:
Temp > = 100.4F (cannot return to school until 24hrs fever free without the use of medications)
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea within the last 24 hrs, must be eating and drinking regularly
Ear or throat infection- must be on antibiotic for full 24 hrs and be comfortable before returning to school
Excessive cough or runny nose that disrupts normal activity
Distracting pain from teeth, ear, nose, throat or any recent injury
Unknown rash must be evaluated by physician and cleared to return to school
Discharge yellow/green from eyes- need 24hrs of eye drops and a physician note to return
It is our goal to maintain the safety of your child during their time in school, while promoting the learning and maintenance of good health behaviors so they will be able to attend school with minimal interruptions. Parental input is a valuable part of any school program, so please do not hesitate to call with any questions or concerns. Looking forward to a healthy and safe school year!
Thank you kindly,

📝 The Importance of Attending School Daily
Sending your child to school daily is the number one thing our families can do to ensure their child is successful in school. Please see the graphic below for some helpful suggestions and reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your child's attendance.
*Please note that a typically developing child in the Preschool program may be dropped from the Preschool program if regular attendance cannot be established or absences exceed twenty (20) cumulative days in one school year.
