WEEKLY NEWSLETTER OF O. HENRY MIDDLE SCHOOL
Principal's Update - Summer Edition - Week of July 31
Dear O. Henry Families,
I hope you are continuing to enjoy a wonderful summer! While there is still time to relax and recharge, our team has been busy getting classrooms ready, planning meaningful learning experiences, and putting the finishing touches on everything that will make this a great year for our Mustangs.
Next week, we look forward to welcoming our newest Mustangs during Mustang Camp on Tuesday, August 4, and Wednesday, August 5. Our teachers and staff will also return to campus on Thursday, August 6, for the first day of professional learning. It's always one of our favorite times of the year as our campus comes back to life and we prepare to welcome students.
In this week's Pony Express, you'll find important back-to-school information to help your family prepare for a successful start to the school year, including:
Upcoming Events – Mustang Camp, Parent 101, Derby Day, and Back-to-School Night
Classroom Supply Lists – Grade-level and elective supply lists
Daily Bell Schedule – School day schedule and lunch periods
Athletics – Physical requirements and tryout information
Band Camp – Important dates and details for the week of August 3

A reminder that Austin ISD registration must be completed before students can receive their class schedules for the 2026–2027 school year. If you have not yet completed registration, please do so as soon as possible. Our staff will continue reaching out by email and phone to families with incomplete registrations to help ensure every student is ready for the first day of school.
The first day of school will be here before we know it, and we are excited to welcome our Mustangs back to campus. Until then, enjoy these last days of summer, take a few minutes to review the information in this newsletter, and let us know if there's anything we can do to help your family get ready for the year ahead.
Make it a great day to be an O. Henry Mustang.
Giddy Up!

Mustang Band Camp (August 3 - 5) 1:30 - 4:30 PM
Attention, all 7th- and 8th-grade band students with at least 1 year of playing experience! You are invited to join us for three exciting days of Summer Band Camp. Band Camp will take place from August 3 to August 5 (Monday through Wednesday), from 1:30 - 4:30 PM in the OHMS Band Hall. The band hall will open at noon each day for early drop-off.
All camp participants will get to perform with the O. Henry Pep Band in the fall. Our Pep Band helps promote school spirit by performing at several pep rallies, the O. Henry Homecoming football game, an Austin High football game, O.Henry Round-Up, the Casis Carnival Parade, and other fun events throughout the school year.
Summer Band Camp is a fantastic opportunity for students to meet new friends, reconnect with old ones, get back in playing shape, and enhance their skills while learning fun music. We will also incorporate some fun social activities during the week.

New Scouting America Troop Forming - Contact Information
A new Scouting America troop is forming in Tarrytown for young people ages 11 to 17. The troop will meet at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, located at the corner of Windsor Road and Exposition Boulevard.
This new troop is a great complement to the existing Pack 20, the Cub Scout pack that already serves younger children in Tarrytown (ages 5–10). Scouts who have aged out of Pack 20 — or any young person in the area who is ready for adventure and growth — will have a natural next step right here in the neighborhood.
Scouting America is a secular organization, and membership is open to all youth regardless of religious affiliation or background. There is no requirement to belong to any faith community to participate.
If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity for your daughter or son, please to reach out directly to:
