EMIS Update In 2024, Section 2.2 of the Educational Management Information System (EMIS) renamed the English learner record “Student Home Language” to “Student Language Other than English” and added languages. This change aims to gather more comprehensive information about the language backgrounds of English learners. According to federal and state law, students identified as English learners are individuals whose language development in standardized English is impacted by communication in other languages. For more information, contact Lau@education.ohio.gov. Biliteracy is fun! Developing language proficiency in more than one language benefits individuals of all ages, especially English learners.
