Bus Stop Reminders

Parents,

When picking up your child at the bus stop, please ensure you park safely and out of the way while waiting for the bus to arrive. This is especially important at stops where multiple cars may be present.

If you are at a central location or intersection, be mindful not to block roads or driveways. Make sure your vehicle is parked in a way that allows traffic to pass safely. At some stops with higher traffic, it’s important to ensure nearby households can navigate the area without difficulty.

A message about school safety

Hello Conway Families

Thank you for helping reinforce bus expectations with your children. With so many students riding the bus, occasional challenges with behavior may arise. To address this, we aim to be as proactive as possible by regularly reminding students of the rules. Additionally, our bus drivers receive ongoing training to ensure they have the tools and strategies needed to manage the bus in alignment with our on-campus safety guidelines.

Student Expectations:

Be Safe

  • Students are to be seated while the vehicle is in motion: facing forward with their seat (back) up against the back of the seat, facing forward with all parts of their body out of the aisle. (This is so important because your child does not have a seat belt. Buses are designed to move on their frame to absorb the shock of a hit and the seats are designed for maximum protection of its occupants as long as they are seated facing forward and out of the aisle. We also have lots of kids that are moving seats while the bus is going down the road.)

  • Students may not change seats or stand when the bus is moving.

  • Kids Crossing the road need to make sure to wait for the driver to secure the bus and wave them across the road.

  • When the vehicle is approaching and crossing railroad tracks, absolute quiet is expected.

  • Bus windows should remain in the “up” position unless permission is given by the driver to put them in a “lowered” position.

  • Weapons, breakable materials (including glass), tobacco products, drugs of any kind, aerosol/or flammable liquids, skate boards, in-line skates and animals (pets) of any kind are not allowed on the bus.

  • Emergency equipment on the bus, (i.e. Fire extinguisher, first aid kit, emergency doors/windows) are to be used in emergency situations only! Students are expected to follow practiced emergency procedures.

Be Respectful

  • Students are to conduct themselves in a manner that will not distract the driver and will not disturb other riders. (Do not talk to the driver except in matters of extreme emergencies.)

  • Noise is to be kept to a minimum. The expected behavior is similar to classroom behavior.

  • No food or drink will be consumed while in a district vehicle. This includes all such food items including gum and candy. (This applies to adults also.) (Exceptions might be made in the case of long trips, or medical need, but not normal bus/van runs.)

  • Damage to the bus – Students should respect and care for the bus. Any damage caused by students will result in a disciplinary referral and payment for damage.

Be Responsible

  • Please make sure you are at your stop 5 mins before your designated time

  • Students are under the supervision of the driver and must obey the driver at all times, including while boarding the school bus. All rules regarding conduct that are in force at school also apply to students while they are being transported in a district vehicle. (The bus is an extension of the school. All school rules are to be followed.)

  • Students are to ride only their regularly assigned bus and leave the bus at their regular stop. To ride another bus or get off at a different stop requires the written permission of a parent/guardian and/or the signed permission of someone in the office. Non-Conway students will not be transported without proper approval of the Conway School Office.

  • Homework can be done in seats designated by the driver. (This is a privilege and the student must make sure to not miss their stop and/or be delayed on departing the bus at their stop. Also they need to keep the bus clean and not leave pencils, paper etc. all over the bus.)

  • There are no Electronics or Phones on the bus.

Be Kind

  • Students will treat each other and the Driver with respect and kindness at all times.

Consequences for bus misbehavior

Consequences are based on school and bus rules:

Step #1: Students will be given verbal warnings/redirects and problem solve with the driver when they are unsafe or have inappropriate behavior.

If after redirects the behavior continues, the driver will make contact with the parents to discuss the student's behavior.

The driver will continue to engage with the student and after the third incident the parents/guardians will be contacted by the school to discuss the behaviors and possible remedies. If after the consultation with the parents the behavior continues, consequences may include the following:

  • Assigned seating,

  • Restrictions on the bus,

  • In School Consequences,

  • Suspension from the bus, the number of days will be determined based on the severity of the infractions.

Step #2. Multiple minors and/or major behaviors: Staff will meet with the student and contact parents to resolve the problems and correct the behaviors.

For continued disruptive behaviors or major infractions:

Step #3 Student may be removed from the bus up to one (1) school day.

Step #4 Student may be removed from the bus up to five (5) school days.

Step #5 Student may be removed from the bus up to thirty (30) school days.

Step #6 Student may be removed from the bus for an extended length of time up to the remainder of the school year.

Bus suspensions may be appealed using the process in Policy and Procedures 3142.
