Principal Update

Kia ora, Nameste, Talofa, Konnichiwa, Guten Tag, Gidday, Vannakkam, ni Hao, Kia orana, Hola, Salam, Sa wat deekha, Dia Dhuit, Goeie Dag, Bonjour, Καλημέρα, Mālō e lelei, Greetings everyone

We would like to take the time to acknowledge the recent conclusion of Ramadan, a significant time for our Muslim whānau centred on reflection, fasting, and community. The celebration of Eid al-Fitr marks the end of this period and is a time of joy, gratitude, and connection. We extend warm wishes to all who observed this special time.

Aroha Guardians - Acknowledgement of students demonstrating our School Values

Congratulations to our Aroha Guardians for Term 1;

  • Mānuka Hub - Jesse

  • Nīkau Hub - Willow, Kyon, Rylee

  • Rātā - Aaradana, Nina

  • Rimu/Tōtara - Adam, L.A, Elsie, Aanvi

  • Kāhikatea - Mataio, Tanishka

These students are chosen by their hub teachers to acknowledge those who go above and beyond, consistently live our school values, or demonstrate significant personal growth. In keeping with our Positive Behaviour for Learning approach, we recognise students who model the behaviours we value within our school community.

Each term, a small number of students are selected for this acknowledgement. Their photo, along with a brief description of why they were chosen, is displayed on the Aroha Guardians Board within their hub. Next week these students are invited to a special morning tea with me, provided by the school, as a way of saying thank you and tino pai, rawe! for the positive example they set.

Cross Country Trials

Today, our students took part in the school cross country trials, demonstrating fantastic perseverance and resilience as they challenged themselves to do their very best. It was great to see so many students encouraging and supporting their classmates along the way, showing true sportsmanship both on and off the course. Thank you to our whānau who came along to watch and support, and a special thank you to Cassie for her organisation and for ensuring the trials ran so smoothly.

Road Patrollers and Road Safety

Well done to our awesome Year 6 Road Patrollers who completed their refresher training last Wednesday morning with Constable Sherylene. Our students are doing a fabulous job of keeping our tamariki safe as they cross the road. It is an important and, at times, challenging role.

A friendly reminder to all parents and caregivers to be mindful of road safety at pick-up and drop-off times:

  • Respect the yellow lines: Please do not park on the yellow lines. If you go further up the road, you will find available parking spaces.

  • Safe U-turns: If you need to perform a U-turn, please do so well away from the crossing area.

  • Be mindful of our neighbours: Please do not park in or block our neighbours' driveways. Turning around in driveways also creates a safety risk for pedestrians, as our tamariki are small and may not always be easily visible when vehicles turn across the footpath.

  • Model safe behaviour: Please cross at the crossing when dropping off or picking up your children. Even if you park further away, walking down to use the official crossing is excellent modelling for our tamariki.

Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our tamariki safe as they travel to and from school.

As this is the final newsletter for the term, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful Easter and a relaxing, enjoyable holiday break.

Ngā mihi nui

Staying Safe Online

Sharing safely online - Hector’s World Episode 4: Best Footprint Forward

Hector and his friends show the importance of asking permission before sharing information, images or videos of someone else online as everyone who is online has a digital footprint.

Continue the conversation at home! Sit down with your tamariki and review your social media together. Ask them about pictures and stories you’ve shared about them and ask how they think it reflects on their digital footprint.

Click here to watch the episode and download the full parent conversation guide for episode four.

Enrolment planning for 2026-2027

Do you have a child turning five soon or next year or know someone else who does? Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend to enrol their child at any time in 2026-2027 are asked to please notify the school as soon as possible to assist the school to plan appropriately. It helps us to know as early as possible how many students will be enrolling as a five-year-old. Interested families may collect an enrolment pack from the office or from our website.

Out of zone enrolment applications are now being accepted for the third enrolment period of 2026 (Saturday 4 July 2026 to Friday 25 September 2026). Up to five (5) places are likely to be available for out of zone students.

The deadline for out of zone enrolments is Friday 27 March 2026.

Please have a look at the school website for more details: https://www.bellevue-newlands.school.nz/enrolment.
