Natasha sees many people who are either concerned with personal use of pornography or are dealing with a pornography disclosure within their marriage or primary relationship. These can be painful and confusing times. Often in these scenarios, folks are referred to sex addiction treatment centers, 12-step support groups and are diagnosed or self-diagnose as sex or porn addicts. Sometimes the behavior in question is more reminiscent of unwanted behavior due to religious or moral values - but would not be deemed clinically problematic. Other times, behavior has crossed a line into feeling out of control - with multiple relational betrayals and risk-taking that is taking a personal toll in one's life. Regardless of how the sexual behavior is manifesting, there are sex-positive ways to approach sexual, intimacy, relational, and personal health in ways that will not approach you and your situation from a perspective of shame, disease or life-long vigilance (i.e. "sobriety"). Sex-positive approaches take a more multi-faceted & diagnostic approach, offer more choice and personal responsibility, normalize the spectrum of sexual/erotic orientations, focus less on symptoms and more on overall health, and in Natasha's experience, are more effective in getting clients closer to the goals and quality of life they are seeking in their sexual and relational realms.
