Message from Nicole Pease, Principal Teacher at DCS Message from Nicole Pease, Principal Teacher at DCS

Dear DCS families, what a tremendous week! We started with the pumpkins arriving! Watching the students create the jack o lanterns as a school is precious. The Kindergarteners scoop the guts out, and the older students get to carve. It was sweet to have them line the halls for the Harvest Supper/Open House. Having our families and their students together for dinner is one of my most loved events at DCS. The staff embraces having the students work to prep the ingredients for the soups, bread, apple sauce, and pumpkin bars. They have an inordinate amount of patience! Today, Susie Spikol was at DCS presenting about her love of animals and how she arrived at the many jobs she has now. Her passion for nature and love of writing is an inspiration and I imagine we have a few authors in our midst! A new experience for DCS students this year is building forts in the woods next to the playground. The students are working together and learning lots about engineering! The upper grade students created fairy houses this morning and they are a new addition to the creative play outdoors! I hope you all have a relaxing weekend! Take care, Nicole

The Pumpkins have been carved! The Pumpkins have been carved!

With lots of volunteer help, Justin Bentley-Melle helped the students of DCS carve pumpkins for the Pumpkin Festival. It was a team effort with the littlest students cleaning the guts out, and the older students carving the designs. The pumpkins will be displayed and lit on the second level of the tower at the head of the square. Please send me photos if you attend the event.

Brrr it's Chilly Out there! Brrr it's Chilly Out there!

Please be sure your student(s) are prepared for the fall weather each day. It has cooled off quickly and we have many students unprepared for being outside. We continue to start our days outside and we do go out for recess each day. Many of our students were unprepared to be outside today for Cornucopia and we do not have gear to borrow. Thank you for your help with this!

Dyslexia Screening Information for you Dyslexia Screening Information for you

The New Hampshire legislature passed a law, Screening and Intervention for Dyslexia and Related Disorders (RSA 200:59). This law went into effect on September 26, 2023, and it requires us to screen all kindergarten through third grade students for the identification of potential indicators or risk factors of dyslexia and related disorders. Please know, the assessments we are asked to conduct are not tools to diagnose Dyslexia. Rather, they are screening tools meant to identify students who may be at risk and allow us to intervene with systematic and structured literacy interventions to help these students succeed.

As part of the beginning of the school year, students in grades K-3 in the Conval School District were administered grade-specific universal screening assessments utilizing the MAP® Reading Fluency™ dyslexia screener. These assessments are designed to predict whether or not your student might struggle while learning how to read. By conducting these assessments, we ensure we are identifying and supporting students appropriately throughout the school year together.

You will find a letter in your child’s backpack that informs you as a family about the assessment results, and whether your child was identified as needing a secondary screener to gain more information about any risk factors for dyslexia.

Volunteering at DCS Volunteering at DCS

We have more and more volunteering opportunities at our school and we would love your help! In order to be able to volunteer for different activities there are two forms that share some trainings needed as well as the necessary background check. The background check can be completed at the Dublin Police Station (we have forms at DCS that you need to bring with you) or at the SAU. We also are planning to have Denise McLenon from the SAU at DCS during our next Community Lunch on Octber
